16 Emotions We All Felt In 2016

It has been a year full of happy, sad and mediocre events.

1. Excited

Who isn't always excited for the new year? Whether its excitement towards the upcoming 2016 presidential election, graduation, vacation or finding out which college you will attend, excitement is guaranteed.

2. Mournful

We lost so many inspirational people this year, from David Bowie to Debbie Reynolds. They have helped shape our past, present and future. And let's not forget about the death of our favorite Gorilla: Harambe.

3. Happy

There are a lot of reasons to be happy this year: Obama's last year in office, proving of Einstein's theory, the Hamilton Mixtape, the plethora of new movies that came out and Cub's winning the world series.

4. Proud

TEAM USA dominated the summer 2016 olympics in Rio. Such a proud moment for all the US citizens.

5. Anger

There was a lot of anger towards the terribleness of humanity. From the things Trump would say, to the Flint Michigan water crisis to the stripping of human rights in Aleppo, anger became second nature.

6. Insecure

How can you not feel insecure when the president-elect constantly objectifies women? Or when verbal abuse is seen on a daily basis? The answer is: you can't avoid feeling insecure.

7. Afraid

From the random clowns on college campus' to the thought of a Trump election: it all makes us afraid to think about.

8.Empathetic

The empathy we held with the Standing Rock group was astonishing. Millions of people helped to support the protest against the Dakota Access Pipeline.

9.Hopeful

We have had a lot of hope this year. For the majority of the year, I held the hope for the first female president and the optimism that everything will work out in the end.

10. Helpless

We all felt a sense of helplessness when seeing pictures and reading articles about the problems in Syria.

11. Grateful

At some point of 2016: we took help from others. Whether it be family, friends or random strangers: gratitude was present in our year.

12. Anxious

Need I say more? I have never felt more anxious than I felt on November 8, 2016.

13. Hurt

We have all been hurt to know that sexual assault is not taken seriously in this country. Rapists don't get enough jail time and we still focus on there accomplishments, then what they did. Hopefully that will change in 2017.

14. Motivated

Motivated to continue to decrease CO2 emissions, motivated to fix the problems Trump has created, motivated to create a better planet; I don't know about you, but I have never felt so motivated to make a difference than I did in 2016.

15. Confused

Brexit?

16. Overwhelmed

So many gun deaths and bombings all around the country. From hate crimes like in the Orlando nightclub to the bombings in Brussels, hopefully there will be less violence in the new year.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
