16 Country Songs for People That Don't Like Country Music

Country music is loved by many but still hated by some, many of whom have it ingrained in their minds that it is all about pickup trucks and tractors and beer. While that is definitely still one of its most endearing qualities, country is a diverse genre that covers everything from soft and sweet love ballads to upbeat party anthems perfect for those long summer nights. Here are 16 country songs for people that typically don't like country music, for whether you are trying to expand your music taste or you are a country fan yourself and have that one friend that refuses to let you play DJ in the car because they hate your music taste.

1. Bottoms Up by Brantley Gilbert

Why you'll love it: Brantley is country music's token "bad boy", and this song is his perfect introduction. This is one that you'll play turned up loud with your windows down when you want to feel particularly like a badass.

2. Yeah Boy by Kelsea Ballerini

Why you'll love it: Don't be scared off by her country twang- this song will get stuck in your head and you won't be mad about it. If you've ever had a crush on anyone ever in your life, you need to listen to it.

3. In Love With the Girl by Luke Bryan

Why you'll love it: Luke Bryan is one of the biggest names in country, and I think this is by far his most underrated song. It's a cute, upbeat love song without being too in-your-face "country". Makes me want to get married immediately.

4. Snapback by Old Dominion

Why you'll love it: When I hear this song, I picture one of those music videos with a really attractive couple driving in a convertible down a California highway with lots of palm trees into a sunset. If that sounds like your thing, you should check it out.

5. Long Live Tonight by LANco

Why you'll love it: This song has great lyrics about living in the moment and enjoying the people you're with, perfect for getting ready for a night out with friends.

6. Make You Mine by High Valley

Why you'll love it: This song has a slight Mumford and Sons vibe while still having definite country lyrics, which makes for an insanely catchy combination.

7. Leave the Night On by Sam Hunt

Why you'll love it: This song will make you want to hop in your car with the people you love and start driving and just never stop. Great for summer nights.

8. Friends We Won't Forget by Lee Brice

Why you'll love it: This is a great friendship anthem that will make you want to grab onto your people and remind them how much they mean to you.

9. American Kids by Kenny Chesney

Why you'll love it: Kenny Chesney is arguably the king of modern country music, and this song is all-around one of his best. Plus, you'll have "A little messed up but we're all alright" to use as an Instagram caption for the rest of your life ;).

10. House Party by Sam Hunt

Why you'll love it: Perfect for just what the title suggests. This song will make you want to grab your friends, turn the radio up loud, and keep the party going all night long.

11. I Don't Dance by Lee Brice

Why you'll love it: The quintessential country love song. If you think country can't do cute, give this one a try.

12. Just a Sip by Luke Bryan

Why you'll love it: This is a great carefree summer party anthem. Another one of Luke's underrated hidden gems, this song would pair nicely with some friends, the beach, and a beer.

13. Before He Cheats by Carrie Underwood

Why you'll love it: Even if you claim to hate country music, you've probably heard this one. It's a classic that you can't help but love and sing along to, and at one point you'll probably end up fantasizing about taking Carrie's advice out on a guy of your own.

14. Done. by The Band Perry

Why you'll love it: This is the ultimate girl-power break up anthem. If you need that final push to pull the plug on that relationship that just isn't doing it for you anymore, you need to hear this ASAP.

15. Can't Shake You by Gloriana

Why you'll love it: The perfect song for anyone still holding on to an ex. Gloriana has more of a traditional country sound to them, but the catchy melody and relatable lyrics make this one a must-listen.

16. I Don't Want This Night to End by Luke Bryan

Why you'll love it: One of Luke Bryan's greatest, this will get the party started and keep it going all night long. An absolute must on any country playlist.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
