16 Annoying Things People Who Pay Their Own Way Through College Are Tired Of Hearing
Paul Ritz

Some people are fortunate enough to depend on their parents or other means of money to pay college. Keep in mind, however, that some people aren't, and those people are going be the hardest working, persevering bunch you've ever met. Their entire future literally depends on their hard work. Here's an article for all you working your asses off in order to pursue higher education. Keep on, keepin' on.

1. "What do you mean you can't afford that? You have a job."

Yes, I have a job, which I need in order to pay bills like tuition and housing. If I spend that bill money on pizza and Denny's I won't be able to go to school. Do you see my dilemma?

2. "Why don't you just ask your parents for money?"

Do you think that I would be working my butt off if my parents could afford to send me to college? Also, that's rude. I only ever ask my parents for money when I absolutely require it. They have their own bills and expenses to pay for.

3. "It's not like GPA actually matters though."

You really lost me on this one. Most students need a high GPA to keep their scholarships, and their loans. Not to mention GPA is the only thing that absolutely matters in college academics in the grand scheme of things?

4. "Can't you just get loans?"

Wow, what a great idea. You just cured my problems. Thank you.

5. "How can you be broke if you work all the time?"

Have you ever looked at a tuition bill? Have you ever honestly looked at any bill ever? You exchange money in order to do things, like go to school. My bank account empties as soon as that tuition bill is due.

6. "You save your money? I could never do that!"

Except that it's not just something I choose to do. I have to save my money or I can't go back to school. Someone actually said this to me once. She was really surprised that I "wasn't tempted to splurge when shopping." If I could actually go shopping, maybe I would have that problem.

7. "I have a job! How else would I have spending money?"

Spending money? I also have a job so that I can spend money...on things I need...to survive and continue my education. Oh wait, you mean like leisure money? Leisure? What's that?

8. "Just charge it."

If I had a dollar for every time my freshman roommate said this... I would have enough to pay for next semester's tuition. Just charge it to the credit card you're going to have to pay off with more money later. I'm really glad I don't have a debit card specifically for this reason; my bank account is a safe place for my money to rest before heading back into the hands of my college.

9. "Aren't you, like, tired of working all the time?"

Yeah, but I sleep it off in my bed that I deserve because I worked hard to get here. Aren't you, like, tired of asking stupid questions?

10. "I'm heading to (insert-tropical-island here) for Spring Break, what about you?"

I'm heading to work. Sometimes, though, if you stand near the door, a nice breeze comes through!

11. "Do you ever not work?"

Of course. I don't work when I'm doing homework, crying, or having a mental breakdown. Sometimes those overlap though. It's not always consistent.

12. "Why did you pick that college?"

Well the campus is beautiful, it has my major, and I won't be drowning in debt after I graduate. Those are some pretty great perks, I think, don't you?

13. "I can't wait to study abroad!"

I can't wait to see your snapchats of your study abroad experience while I'm working. How can you afford to study abroad? How can you afford to buy things while studying abroad? I wish I could study abroad. I can barely afford studying remotely.

14. "I love going out to eat, don't you?"

Where do you get money to go out with? If you mean going outside to eat my instant cup of ramen noodles, sure! I like a nice breeze while eating pasta sides as well.

15. "Oh I always just buy my textbooks!"

You always just straight up buy hundred dollar or more textbooks? I can barely afford to rent a textbook nonetheless buy one. Quick question, do your parents or guardians want to adopt me?

16. "Tuition is due."

Again? I feel like I just paid that! Hopefully the site doesn't crash as we all try to pay at once. RIP to my bank account. Sleep tight, sweet prince.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
