16 Pieces Of Advice About Spring Break For College Students

Spring break is right around the corner and for college freshman like myself, it's hard to know what to expect. Is it really just all of the drugs and sex that are pictured on MTV's Spring Break or in the infamous movie Spring Breakers? Well, I talked to some upper classmen to figure this out. Here's what they had to say:

1. Not everyone looks as beautiful as it looks on TV.

Those people are hired and planted to make the show's spring break look irresistible.

2. Expect to be super bloated from the alcohol intake.

If you are planning to drink a lot, don't forget it makes you bloated and pee a lot. The downsides are even more evident when on spring break.

3. People are *desperate* to hook up.

Veryyyyy desperate. Aka will hook up with anything that moves.

4. You will probably get separated from your friends.

It's hard to stay responsible for yourself and your friends. The key is to watch over yourself first.

5. It gets pretty ratchet.

While trying to live cheap and enjoy all of your time, you may need to skip a shower or two. It's fine, people are too drunk to care.

6. Sleeping is not a thing.

There is simply no time to sleep. Someone will want to go watch the sunrise at 6 am or stay up till 4 in the hot tub.

7. You will probably run into someone you know.

Chances are you will end up at a popular vacation spot. And considering your entire university is on break at the same time, you will definitely be in the same area as someone from your college.

8. It's all about the dage.

Daging (day raging) is the primary activity during the day at Spring Break. Be prepared to go hard and rally later.

9. Freshman year you will probably end up somewhere near your school.

Unless you go all out, most people will choose to drive or take the bus to spring break their first year.

10. You need to pace yourself.

Embarking on a week of straight drinking is not smart or sustainable. You will need to take a break, so don't go overboard.

11. It's not just drinking all the time.

You are going on vacation, and their are plenty of things to do than drink 24/7. You could take a bike ride, go on a hike, or rent a kayak. The possibilities are infinite, and you will want a drinking break anyway.

12. You will get *very* close to your friends.

Sharing a less than glamorous house with 6 of your closest friends will bring you closer together. Literally and figuratively.

13. Sunscreen is essential.

Getting a bad burn the first day of Spring Break is the worst. You can not recover from it, so just grab the sun screen and lather up to avoid this inconvenience.

14. Make sure you buy everything you need before you leave.

There will be limited time to stop for a quick trip to the grocery store. If you buy everything you need before you arrive, you can save that time and have fun instead.

15. You will make a ton of new friends.

You will meet people who you would have never met otherwise. Take this opportunity to talk to new people from different places and make friendships that can last a lifetime.

16. No matter where you go, it will be an experience you never forget.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
