15 Ways You Know You're A Journalism Major

Journalism is a great field, despite what others say about it. For some people, it's all they know how to do. Here are just 15 ways you may know you're a journalism major:

1. You read something for leisure and take note of all of the AP Style mistakes.
2. You quadruple-check something in the AP Style book so you can avoid the same mistakes.
3. Basically just AP Style, all the time.
4. You find yourself struggling so hard to achieve the best SEO headline.
5. Transcribing interviews is the worst, only because the sound of your own voice makes you want to run for the hills.

6. "Did you hear about ______?" Yes, I did. A while ago.
7. You have to constantly defend your decision to major in a tough field.
8. Social media is everything! You're not always looking at silly gifs or taking Buzzfeed quizzes - sometimes an important story on your Twitter feed stops you in your tracks and you HAVE to read it then and there.
9. You're comfortable with hard deadlines in any class or in any matter, because journalism taught you that if you're even a minute late with a story, it's won't be good.
10. Time isn't real. Sometimes you're working on a story or package right up until deadline, and sometimes the entire staff works through the night to get the next edition to print or the next show's rundown perfect. Which leads me to #11...

11. You probably spend the most money on coffee and Red Bull out of anyone else on your college campus.
12. You feel sorry for STEM and other related majors because math and science are hard. You're amazed by the stuff they do because it would honestly probably kill you if you tried.
13. You get really annoyed when people don't know what's going on in the news. IT'S SO IMPORTANT!!! Yes, it might be sad, but educate yourself, we beg of you!
14. You know you picked to enter a field that isn't always the most gratifying, for many reasons...
15. But seeing your work published/aired, making connections with actual people and not just sources, knowing that what you do matters, committing to your obligation to the truth and doing your job as a watchdog...those are more than enough to keep us going back for more.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
