Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and not all of us have a date for the special day. It’s okay. Want to know why? Because it is so much more important to love yourself than to be loved by others. I have learned with time that you will never be able to love the right way before loving yourself the right way. So, here are a couple of things that we can all do to be better, do better, and love better.

  1. Try the 2/30 rule — 2 hours of TV, 30 minutes of exercise.
  2. Don’t skimp on sleep — Set an alarm on your phone 30 minutes before you want to go to bed. This forces you to start getting ready for bed.
  3. Forgive yourself — We are all way too hard on ourselves and deserve forgiveness for our mistakes.
  4. Stand up for yourself and learn to say no.
  5. Read a book a week.
  6. Count to ten when you’re angry.
  7. Don’t make assumptions and try to see the good in people.
  8. Give at least one genuine compliment every day and learn to accept them.
  9. Drop loose change into the same jar daily — Building this habit can you save you money in the long run.
  10. Dress up — We all need to dress up every once in a while, pamper yourself, get a manicure, put on some lipstick, and stand tall.
  11. Laugh at yourself — Don’t take yourself so seriously.
  12. Do you — You will never be able to please everyone. Not everyone is going to like you but it’s fine.
  13. Let go of the past — Holding onto a grudge only affects you.
  14. Stop comparing yourself — Everyone achieves their goals at different rates.
  15. Smile more You never know who is falling in love with it.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
