15 Ways To Live A More Positive Life

Everyone wants to live a happy life but sometimes we lose focus on how to make that happen. Well here's fifteen reminders of things to do to help live a more positive life.

1.) Surround yourself with good people.

A huge part of it is as simple as surrounding yourself with other positive people. When we see others smiling and laughing being happy, it makes it harder for us to be negative. This is a good way to improve your mood as well because when we are with people that we enjoy being with, we tend to laugh and have a good time. Also, when we are with people we enjoy and doing things we enjoy, we tend to forget about the things that aren’t so good in life.

2.) Want to live a more positive life

Our happiness starts with us. Yes others can help, but in the end it is down to us. We have to want to be happy and live positively. Like people who want to change their physical appearance, we have to want it and be willing to work for it.

3.) Try to see the good

Make the most of what is in front of you. Whether it’s a lot or a little, there is always a way to make things work. And in different situations, try to see something good in everything. A bad situation can be lessened when you try to look at the positives instead of dwelling on the negatives.

4.) Be kind

This one may be a bit cliché but it’s true. Treat people the way you want to be treated. Treat others with kindness and respect and you are more likely to receive that attitude and attention in return. When someone does something as small as holding a door, it can really have a good impact on our moods and outlook on people and life.

5.) Be thankful

No we don’t have everything we want, but we can be thankful for the things we do have. If we learn to enjoy what we have we can be happy even without the things we don’t possess. The more you are thankful, the more you attract things to be thankful for.

6.) Don’t stress about things out of your control

Stress is a huge problem in creating positivity. The more we stress the worse we are. Dwelling on negatives can cause stress as well. There can be a vicious cycle here and making one simple change can eliminate a lot of that. There are so many things that happen in our lives that we can’t change or can’t control. In these instances we need to learn to live with the outcomes because if we can’t do anything about it, there is no point in stressing about it.

7.) Have self-worth and self-pride

It’s okay to think positive about yourself, it’s not being vain. If we constantly put ourselves down, then we will never learn to see the positives to ourselves. A good way to do this is to care less about what others think of us and care more about what we think about ourselves. This can lower your stress level a lot when you are not worried about what others are thinking of you every time you go out, or talk.

8.) Be yourself

An important lesson to live by that many of us forget is to just be yourself. It’s easy to get caught up in wanting to be like someone we like or admire. It’s also easy to want to have and own what everyone else owns. We often times feel as if we will be judged if we don’t “fit in”. What’s truly important is to be yourself, no matter how quirky, or weird some people may think you are. And yes, it’s okay to stand out, be different, and not be a park of the “in crowd”. In the end, there is always going to be someone by your side who will love you for you.

9.) Start living for yourself

So many of us live for everyone else. We do and say things to please everyone around us and almost never do what we want and what makes us happy. It’s understandable, we want those we love to be happy, but our own happiness is important too. It’s not being selfish do have your own opinions and makes some decisions of your own here and there. If you make a choice that happens to make someone upset, then just know that, that’s life. You can’t make everyone happy.

10,) Don’t overthink

Over thinking situations can destroy a person. When you worry about something that is going to happen or something you want to do or say, you start to play a million scenarios in your head thinking “well what if this happens” or “what if that happens”. We need to stop thinking what if. What if something good happens? Then you just worried about nothing for all that time. Sometimes we need to just go with it and think positive.

11.) Let go of the past

It’s called a past for a reason. It happened and is over with. Dwelling on what already happened can be unhealthy, especially if it is pain from the past. What’s already done is done, and there is no undo button in life so we have to move on. Yes the past is what helped create who we are today, but if you don’t like it, you can always change you are. You are not stuck in the past.

12.) Learn from your mistakes

Mistakes happen, but we move on. Forget what hurt you but never forget what it taught you. Life is about learning from our mistakes.

13.) Remember, life is a gift

You woke up today, be happy that you’re here and alive and breathing. Life can be truly beautiful when we stop and look to admire it. Yes there are rainy days, but there are sunny days too. And when you think about it, we need the rain for flowers, trees, and new life to grow.

14.) Don’t live in fear

We live fear every day. Whether its fear or judgement, fear of getting hurt, fear of spiders. Living in fear isn’t really living. When you go out and enjoy life without worrying about all that ‘could happen’ you start living a more fulfilling and happy life.

15.) Think positive

Lastly, just think positive thoughts. Thinking about happy memories or people that make you happy puts us in a better mood. You can’t be negative and expect to live a positive life.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
