It's a new year and just like every other year, everyone has set out to be a healthier and more fit version of themselves. Yet, after two short weeks into this new years resolution, the motivation to make healthier choices may already be wearing thin. That is okay. People don't change over night and neither do their habits. So if you are having trouble sticking to your resolution, here are a few things to incorporate into your everyday life that will burn calories without you even having to exercise.

1. Drink coffee.

Some studies have shown that drinking caffeine can increase the number of calories you burn. Plus it keeps you awake for those dreadful morning classes or meetings.

2. Spice up your meals.

Spicy foods speed up your metabolism which then helps your burn more calories.

3. Get a good night's sleep.

When you don't get enough hours of sleep over several days it can actually slow the rate at which you burn calories.

4. Eat breakfast.

When you miss breakfast your body goes into starvation mode and begins to preserve the fat in your body until it is fed.

5. Drink ice-cold water.

Drinking ice cold water forces your body to use more energy to heat the water up.

6. Walking or biking.

Trade in your car for a bike or short walk when you aren't going too far.

7. Chewing gum.

Gets rid of calories and bad breath, double win.

8. Smiling and laughing.

Everyone knows the saying "It takes more muscles to frown than to smile." So take a break from your stressful day and share some laughs with friends. Laughing 10-15 minutes a day can even increase the calories you burn.

9. Eat more throughout the day.

Eating more meals during the day forces your body to digest more which then burns more calories.

10. Singing and dancing.

Take a night off and take on the town with your girls. There is no better way to burn calories than by doing it by dancing and singing with your best friends.

11. Stretching.

Stretching 6 minutes a day can help you burn up to 100 calories per week!

12. Go shopping.

What better way to burn calories then walking around to your favorite stores and buying outfits to show off the new and improved version of yourself.

13. Squat it out.

Not everyone can make it to gym every day to do their squats so if this happens to be you, next time you go down to grab something, squat for it.

14. Heat things up.

And I'm not just talking about your food. Invite that cute boy over or have a date night with your hubby.

15. Take the stairs.

Avoid the elevator and burn a few extra calories a day. Your butt in jeans will be thanking you.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
