There are two kinds of people. There are cat people and then there are dog people. I can pretty much put myself in one of those categories, although I have grown up owning a couple family cats. Dogs are undoubtedly the most well-liked type of pets in this day in age. While cats are not far behind, many will choose cats over dogs. Here are 15 reasons to fight the argument that dogs ARE better than cats.

Dogs are far more caring.
Dogs are very aware of their loved ones feelings. When your dog realizes you are upset, they are right there next to you trying to lick you or get your attention because they love you. Cats are very independent, and probably don’t care if you had a bad day at work that day, they want to be pet anyways.
Dogs are happier than cats
Dogs are happy. They smile and can change the whole atmosphere in the room. Dogs are just happy animals, while cats are pretty mean and not as happy.
Dogs can be protective.
Dogs love their owners, and they will usually do anything to make sure they are okay and safe. Dogs are mature and protective species. They are a lot stronger than cats, and will be there if there is a robbery or any type of scary situation.
Dogs play with you.
One of the best reasons to have a dog, you can play with them! You can play with pretty much anything and see how your dog loves to mess around with you. From fetch to tug of war, the options are pretty endless. I don’t remember a time I have ever seen a cat play fetch or tug of war, just saying.
Dogs listen to their owners.
Your dog usually has learned it’s own name and will listen if you call it. Most dogs usually come running, some might take more training. I know my cat definitely did not listen to their name.
Dogs can perform tricks.
Dogs are used to learning different tricks in reward for something like a treat. Dogs can do all different tricks such as sit, stay, paw etc. Cats lack this trait.
Dogs are affectionate.
Like I have said earlier, dogs are usually very fond of their “people” or “owners”. Dogs love being with their owner and miss them when they are gone. Dogs are caring creatures who love to be loved.
Dogs come in a different variety.
Face it, if you are a dog person there is a much larger variety of choices for you to choose from rather than people who prefer cats.
Dogs can help you make friends.
Many people love dogs so much that they might just approach you while you are standing outside, minding your own business and walking your dog. People love this stuff and BAM; you just made yourself a new friend. You probably couldn’t thank your cat for that one, now could you?
Dogs keep us fit.
Your New Years resolution is to stay fit, but you don’t want to go running alone… can you strap a harness and leash onto your cat? I think not.
Dogs are every day heroes, too.
There are dogs that are just our pets and heroes in our own eyes, but there are other dogs helping on a day-to-day basis. Some dogs can be trained to be Seeing Eye dogs, work with certain fire departments or even be trained to work with the police. Dogs are heroes every day.
Dogs are loyal.
Dogs are some of the most loyal pets in the world. They stay close and loyal to their owners through every possible instance. Cats, on the other hand, may run the other way. They might be concerned with saving themselves.
Dogs can go on trips with you.
I know plenty of dogs that love car rides, and love going anywhere with their owner. Dogs are far better at being adventure partners than cats.
Dogs do not have litter boxes.
Enough said.
Dogs get excited with your arrival.
Nothing is better than knowing right when you walk in the door your dog will be so excited to see you and will be jumping with joy. Maybe it’s because they know they are going to get fed soon…. or maybe because they are way cooler than cats in every single way, and they just love you.
