15 Ways To Productively Procrastinate

It's the middle of the semester. It's the time when it's starting to get difficult to motivate yourself to do your homework.

Instead of procrastinating by going on Facebook, on Instagram, or going through all the Snapchat filters, try some of these methods for effective productive procrastination (now that's an oxymoron).

1. Do your laundry

I know you haven't done it in a month.

2. Take a shower

While we're on the subject of cleaning clothes, you might as well clean yourself.

3. Do 50 jumping jacks

Exercise is good for your heart and your brain, which might give you more energy to do your real work.

4. Call your parents or an old high school friend

Trust me, they'll appreciate it.

5. Clean your room

Once you do, there will be so much more room for activities—like spreading out all your work on the floor.

6. Send an email to your advisor

Give your advisor, a past employer or someone who has been a mentor to you some updates on what you've been up to. This should be easy to write since it's about stuff you know, and this will come in handy if you need a recommendation in the future.

7. Read a newspaper

If you can't be actually productive, might as well catch up on current events.

8. Clean out your email inbox

Nothing is worse than unread emails. Unsubscribe from those newsletters that you never actually read.

9. Cook food

Fuel your productivity with some sustenance. This procrastination will be even better if you share your food with your housemates.

10. Make a to-do list

Give yourself goals. Then, once you're done with that, you can start doing that stuff.

11. Mark all your assignments in your calendar

Like your to-do list, take steps to organize your life. Always a good choice.

12. Make your bed

It'll feel so nice to plop on your made bed after a long day of work.

13. Do the dishes

If other people are telling you to do your dishes...it's time to do the dishes.

14. Look up an internship

This will be helpful for when you do decide to join the real world.

15. Go for a run

Exercise is good. You can probably run a mile in about 10 minutes. Or you could just run away from all your problems so you can productively procrastinate forever.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
