Good boyfriends are definitely hard to find nowadays, but they do exist. Some of us are still waiting for him (don't worry, your time will come!) and some of us are lucky to have found him already. How do we know if he is a keeper for the long run? Here are fifteen things I think are important to consider him a keeper!
1. He wants a call or text to know you got home safely, even if he's about to go to sleep.
It's important to know the difference between controlling and protective. It's good to know your safety is important to your boyfriend and his safety should be just as important to you!
2. He does your favorite things with you just to make you smile.... Even if he doesn't like it.
Does he really want to watch that Disney movie with you again for the 8th time? Who knows, but he will do it anyways because it means so much to you! We would do the same for them too!
3. He wants to travel with you.
Growing up, I always fantasized about going on vacations and seeing new places with a significant other. Having that drive is not really a necessity (not everyone likes to travel) but wanting to have new experiences and see new things with you also falls under this category!
4. He cares deeply about your future together.
It's the most awkward thing to talk about in the beginning, and sometimes people don't talk about it until way later in their relationship. But sometimes it just goes without words; if he treats you right and keeps you happy, he cares about the future with you.
5. He won't disrespect you.
Being realistic, some arguing is completely normal and healthy in a relationship. We can't all get along all the time. There is a line of respect that needs to be obeyed no matter what, and as long as you both follow that, it'll work out. And it seems like he always tries to make you smile in the end anyways!
6. He'll never say no to a couple picture for Instagram.... Or a hundred.
Our poor boyfriends. I'm sorry for making you take a thousand pictures of us kissing on the beach, it worth sharing!!
7. You goof around with each other.
Your relationship doesn't have to be completely serious. Goof around and make jokes, it's important. It keeps the spark alive.
8. He puts up with all your crazy.
Every girl has a crazy side. Find the guy that can handle your level of crazy- he's a keeper. Bless the boys that deal with us.
9. He gets along with your family members and friends.
Getting along with family and/or people close to you are not only important to yourself but important to them. They don't want to see you distanced with a guy not right for you, they want to be included and welcome him in the family! If he gets along with the people you love, that's a good sign!
10. His friends treat you like family, not like "the girlfriend."
This always made me the most nervous in relationships. It's important for your boyfriend to have time with his friends and there's nothing wrong with you joining in sometimes, especially if he joins in with your friends! If his friends open up to you and treat you like you are one of them, that's definitely a good sign!
11. His Mom loves you.
This is a bonus. Some cases might be different, but a lot of guys are close with their moms. If his mom has a good relationship with you, it's safe to say she approves and think that YOU'RE a keeper as well!
12. You communicate well and trust each other.
This point is one of the most important ones. Open communication and trust are two of the most important aspects of a relationship; you absolutely need these to last. If he contributes and helps with both, it's safe to say he is a keeper.
13. You know you both aren't perfect, but you work through it.
Like I said earlier, it's healthy to bicker. The drive to work through your problems and be together is what matters. If he shows that, there's a pretty good chance that he wants it to work in the long run.
14. You never expect him to act like a gentleman, but somehow he always does. He knows how to have fun and goof off but always opens a door for you or pulls out your chair for you before you sit. He treats you like a respectable lady and that's always important.15. He makes you happy. The most important for last: He makes you happy! If you end up crying almost every night over him ignoring you or fighting with you, maybe it isn't meant to be. Find someone that will enhance your happiness, not be the center of it. It's important that he brings nothing but positivity and support in your life.
