15 Ways You Know You're From Austin

Being an Austinite is something to be very proud of. Austin is the Live Music Capital of the World, home to the best food you will ever taste and nicest people you will ever meet. Anyone who grew up there can relate to these things:

1. Whether you go to UT or not, you're a longhorn at heart...

Yeah, the football team kind of sucks, but OU sucks more.

2. It's not unusual to wait a couple of hours for Franklin's BBQ.

The four hour wait was definitely worth it.

3. You probably go to ACL and SXSW every. single. year.

And you're offended when someone who isn't from around here doesn't know what they are. ACL > Coachella.

4. You've had family pictures taken in a field of bluebonnets before..

But contrary to popular belief, it is NOT illegal to pick them.

5. You're convinced Austin is the best city in Texas.

Q: What are Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston?

A: Irrelevant.

6. Construction. Construction everywhere.

When you're the fastest growing big city in the country, you've got to make a lot of changes to fit everybody.

7. On that note: Californians, go back to where you came from.

Yes, we know our city is awesome, and no offense, but you're kind of killing our vibe.

8. Lake Travis filling back up was the best thing to happen since sliced bread.

So, so many memories on that lake. It's great to have you back, Travis.

9. You avoid I-35 and Mopac between the hours of 3:30 and 7:30 at all costs.

And when you do get stuck in stop and go traffic, you're probably yelling at all the idiot drivers. (There's a lot of them.)

10. Kendra Scott is everywhere.

Austin is the birthplace of this popular brand, so naturally, it's worn by every girl within a 10 mile radius.

11. Stand up paddle boarding is a summer tradition.

You can't beat seeing the Austin skyline from the water. Also, it's surprisingly a great workout.

12. You can't beat Austin's nightlife.

If you've ever been to 6th Street, you know there's no question about this. ATX does it best.

13. You own at least one pair of cowboy boots.

If you don't, you're doing it wrong.

14. You know graffiti can be one of the coolest forms of art.

There are too many pictures to even attach here, but our wall art is our pride and joy. If you don't know what I'm talking about, give "I love you so much wall" "graffiti park austin" "hi how are you wall" and "austin graffiti" a Google.

15. What are seasons?

Texas is the most bipolar state ever when it comes to the weather. You can have fall, winter, spring, and summer all in one week! We're all about diversity.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
