Everyone is obsessed with something that they swear will make them happy. If I had more money I’d be happy. If I was skinner I’d be happy. If I had a different job I’d be happy. We often think that materialistic and superficial items will make us happy and that we’ll live happier lifestyles with them. We associate happiness with an emotion, often with love or greed. We think that we need to add people and things into our lives, but in order to live a happier, healthier and simplier life, most of the time we need to de-clutter our lives. Happiness does not come from other people; it comes from within.

Want to live a better, healthier life? Follow these tips and boost your overall mood and lifestyle.

1. Eat breakfast

Eating breakfast will start your day off right. Have a bowl of oatmeal, eggs or a smoothie to feel energized and more awake.

2. Sleep more

“You can sleep when you’re dead.” True, but who doesn’t love a good night’s sleep? You’ll feel more energized, less cranky and can lose weight.

3. Tell yourself you’ll have a good day when you wake up

If you start you day by telling yourself you’re going to have a great day, odds are you’ll have an amazing day. A positive mind can lead to a positive lifestyle.

4. Clean

Get rid of unwanted items, take out the trash, organize your room, and de-clutter your life. You’ll feel better.

5. Drink more water

Water is the best. Drink a lot of it and drink it before a meal to feel fuller.

6. Drink tea

Drink green tea to get rid of toxins in your body and get a boost of caffeine.

7. Stretch

Grow a bit taller and do some stretches when you wake up or before you go to bed.

8. Cut out processed food

Do you ever feel groggy? It’s probably because of all those processed foods in your diet. Eat more fruits and vegetables and cut out the chips and pizza.

9. Read

We all love Netflix, but sometimes you need a break. Pickup a book from Goodwill and let your eyes have a break from the harsh computer light.

10. Exercise

Go for a walk, bike ride, do yoga, run…do anything and you’ll feel more energized and healthier.

11. Wear your favorite outfit

Wear what makes YOU happy, because that’s all that matters.

12. Send your loved ones a text

Remind your friends how much you appreciate them or tell your mom you love her.

13. Stop comparing yourself

Look in the mirror and find at least three things you love about yourself. Be confident; you have nothing to feel ashamed about.

14. Focus on the future

Don’t dwell on the past – focus on the future.

15. Surround yourself with love

Find supportive friends who tell you to chase your dream, eat that slice of cake, and make you the best person you can be.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
