15 Times "Parks And Recreation" Perfectly Described Adulting

Not only is Parks and Rec. an entertaining show, it also perfectly describes adulting for the common millennial—especially the awkward, introverted ones. For college-age adults—baby-adults— we are at a place in our lives where we are becoming adults, but we still are learning how to adult well. Sometimes we get it, sometimes we don’t. These are all based on real events from my life and I’m sure most of you can relate. Here are 15 times Parks and Rec. perfectly described adulting.

1. Deal with your problems yourselves like adults

Sometimes when other baby-adults just aren’t getting life right, this is our response. Because we obviously know more about how to adult.

2. Do you…like me?

Relationshipping doesn’t get easier with age. It’ll always be awkward.

3. Being a responsible adult sucks butts

When you realize what you’re getting into: jobs, taxes, rent, worrying about your credit, not getting paid on time, etc.

4. Life is pointless and nothing matters

When you really realize what you’re getting into.

5. Butter is my favorite food

Becoming an adult means you get to shop for yourself and you quickly find out what is quality food and what is not worth purchasing.

6. I hate talking…to people…about things. This is a nightmare

When your landlord calls you, Financial Aid looses your IRS forms, HR messes up your paychecks, your car starts making weird noises…and you’re the one who has to take care of it.

7. I may never smile again

So, I’ve had $9.13 in my bank account for the past two weeks because I haven’t gotten paid yet. I’ve just been starving. I need food. I’m dying.

8. This is my hell

If adolescence is purgatory, adulthood is hell.

9. I’m not interested in caring about people

I can barely take care of myself, I can’t take on caring about more people than I absolutely have to.

10. People are idiots, Leslie

Yes.

11. …How’d you do that?!

When you see an adult adulting better than you. Teach me your ways.

12. No no no. I’m not lonely. I have me

I work all day and night and don’t have time for friends, but I guess I’m not lonely…right?…I have myself…right?

13. I tried to make ramen in the coffee pot and I broke everything

Things happen when you’re a poor adult trying to live.

14. I kind of forgot that you need money when you have a girlfriend

If you’re in a relationship during this time in life, you get this. Good thing my boyfriend and I are happy just doing nothing all day. Netflix, eating, games, the park, and talking, amirite?

15. When I get bummed out, I take my shirt off because the bad feelings make me feel sweaty

It doesn’t help that we don’t have enough money to pay for utilities (so our house is always 10* hotter inside). Adult life is sweaty. Because bad feelings and no money for AC.

Even though adulting is more difficult than easy, I think we can all agree that it is well worth it. Also, you can do this adult thing, I believe in you.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
