15 Thoughts You Have While Filling Out FAFSA

As March 1 rolls through this week, for most it's just one day closer to spring. For others, it is a nail biting time because March 1 is when the deadline for priority processing for the FAFSA. For those of you who do not know what the FAFSA is, this is an online application that you and your parents have to fill out each and every year to determine whether how much financial aid for the upcoming academic year. For some, FAFSA is the only reason they are still in college because they need that money to pay for classes. For others, FAFSA does not help much at all. Though what ever your financial situation it we all have the same thoughts while filling out our FAFSA.

1. Why do I have to fill this out?

2. I opened the page. I am getting somewhere.

3. What is the FSA ID?

4. Crap, where is my FAFSA PIN?

5. What if I do not know if I am living on or off campus?

6. Mom, can you fill this out for me?

7. Yes, I am a real person.

8. No! The website is frozen!

9. I have to start the over again?

10. Mom! Pick up your phone!

11. What does all this even mean?

12. Did it really just ask me if I ordered delivery in January?

13. Yes, again, I am a real person.

14. Man, if I filled this out wrong I could go to jail.

15. OK, I submitted it. Now I just have to wait until I am up for verification.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
