16 Thoughts Freshmen Have Their First Week of College
Madeleine Claire Naquin
  1. How much is too much for a dorm? In other words, can I bring my bookshelf? What about my coffee cart? How much of my closet can I bring? Also, how does one pack for college?
  2. There's no elevators in this dorm...? But I'm on the third floor!
  3. Am I supposed to walk to the showers in my towel? Or should I wear a bathrobe? Do I change in the shower stall? But then what am I supposed to do with the clothes I was wearing when I walk back to the room?
  4. Ok, I’m going out tonight. Who do I tell? Do I call my mom and tell her? Am I supposed to tell my RA? That sounds right. *Tells RA* “Ok…? Then go.”
  5. Why are boys making fart noises in the middle of the meeting? Haven’t they grown out of that by now?
  6. How do I know what to wear? Am I allowed to wear shorts? Does my outfit have to match? I miss uniforms.
  7. EW a bug! Ok, here's a paper towel, now let's go flush it before it comes back to life! *runs out of room to bathroom* *comes back to room* Did I forgot to grab my key when I ran out? Dammit, I did and now I'm locked out. And my phone is in there.
  8. I’m lost. No, I can’t be lost. To be lost, I’d have to know where I’m supposed to be going. I am simply misplaced. Maybe if I keep walking, I’ll figure out where I need to go. Okay, I’m lost.
  9. And this is the wrong class. How do I leave discreetly...?
  10. Ok, I found the class. Finally. Wait… Am I in the right class…? I think I am but why are there seniors in here?
  11. So we can just have our phones out on the desk? While she’s teaching? And we can just pick up our phones and text after we finish an assignment? Isn’t there a rule against this?
  12. I’M SITTING NEXT TO A BOY. THIS IS UNNATURAL.
  13. Wait, we can just leave? It’s not 10:05 yet. Is the professor sure about this? Whatever, I'm leaving.
  14. Why am I being woken up at 6:00 in the morning from the tornado siren when there isn’t a single cloud in the sky?
  15. Do I have to go to class? It's only the third day but I'm already too emotionally exhausted for this.
  16. Freshman Fifteen will NOT be a thing with all this walking.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.
