And so it has begun. We can no longer spend our days sleeping in past noon, staying up to see the sunrise or taking spontaneous trips. Now that the fall semester has started, we all have a lot less free time, and a lot more homework. If you are a college student who just began classes, then you have probably thought the following things:
1. Where did my summer vacation go?
Did we really have three months off, because it felt more like five minutes.
2. I can't wait to see my friends!
If you don't live near your friends from college, then it has probably been awhile since you have seen some of your besties.
3. I miss my friends.
Chances are, you have some friends that don't go to the same college as you, and you had to say goodbye to them before leaving again for college. While technology makes it easier for people to stay in touch, it is still hard being away from your friends from home.
4. I can't wait to move in!
Whether you are moving into on-campus or off-campus housing, moving into a new place with new people is always exciting.
5. I don't want to move in.
Moving is a hassle, especially when you have to keep doing it each year. Also, what if you end up not getting along with the people you live with?! Too many things to stress about.
6. I'm really going to focus on my classes this year.
So maybe last year you didn't do as well as you wanted to. Or, maybe you did, but you want to keep that 4.0. Either way, we are all motivated to do well at the beginning of the semester.
7. I'll be there!
Of course I'll go to the club/bar/club meeting/apartment party. After all, going out one night can't hurt my grade yet, right?
8. Do I have to get up?
Whether you ended up partying too hard the night (or morning) before, or still are used to a nocturnal schedule, getting out of bed has become the hardest thing you have ever had to do in your entire life.
9. Why aren't there more parking spots?
I did not pay $200 to enter a "Hunger Games"-style competition for a parking spot that is not even close to my classes anyway.
10. I hate how crowded campus is.
Even once you find parking, walking on campus is a struggle. Trying to get books from the bookstore? Trying to grab lunch in the student center? Trying to find an open machine at the gym? Good luck. New year means new students checking out all that campus has to offer, and you'll have to deal with long lines and congested sidewalks for awhile before things start to die down.
11. Why did I make my class schedule like this?
I am not a morning person, why did I think I could be on-time for my 8am class? Why didn't I give myself a break in between classes for lunch? Why did I sign up for a class that meets on Fridays? Why am I such a horrible planner?
12. Why is our professor starting material on the first day?
Being back in classes again is painful enough. Now you expect us to do real work? AND we have things due by the end of the week? Is it too late to drop out?
13. Thank goodness for add/drop week.
Maybe trying to pack all of your math and science courses into one semester wasn't the best idea.
14. I can't wait for football season to start.
Nothing brings out school spirit more than college football. College football games are always a fun atmosphere, and if you've been to one, you know there is nothing quite like it.
15. It's going to be a good year.
Sure, school will be stressful, but that doesn't mean we can't have the time of our lives while being trained for our future careers. We are surrounded by our peers, and there are constantly events going on. Of course we will have fun!
