15 Thoughts Every College Student Has During Summer As Told By Jimmy Fallon

Coming home from college can be a very tough transition for some people. You are forced to live back under your parent's roof and go by their rules. You gained all this new-found independence and are forced to put it on hold, sit down and eat real food with your family. Even though you just want to binge watch Netflix until 10pm and then throw some mac and cheese in the microwave. Here are some thoughts (or struggles) that college students have coming back home for the summer.

1. "Why do I have a curfew?"

Not every college student has one of these coming home, but I am fortunate enough to have a summer curfew. Because "I have to work in the morning and can't sleep when I'm worried about you," is a good enough excuse apparently. Your sleep schedule is now forced to abide by your parents' sleep schedules.

2. "Mom, that's enough food!"

Yes dorm food is not great. It's really terrible. But, I am not a starving child in Africa. You don't have to stuff me like a pig getting ready for slaughter. Give my stomach some time to expand and digest.

3. "Guess who's back together?"

Being four and a half hours from your best friend is extremely difficult, but when you come home it's like no time has passed. You are sleeping in each other's beds and calling each other a million times.

4. "Mom, stop smothering me!"

She feels as though she needs to make up for the nine months of time that she couldn't hug and kiss you whenever she wanted.

5. "Final grades came out!"

Good news: I'm not on academic probation and I kept my scholarship.

6. "I only slept until 2pm today!"

I woke up before my mom got home from work. Isn't that an accomplishment? What you don't know is I stayed up watching Netflix until 3:30 am. But, I don't have things to do, why not sleep?

7. "This is how we spend Friday nights at home!"

You feel lucky if your parents let you get a soda when you go out to a restaurant. Fridays at my house usually consist of falling asleep on the couch watching the Cardinals game, going to get ice cream or watching Netflix.

8. "Oh puppy, how I've missed you!"

Imagine a Nicholas Sparks-esque reunion, but with your dog. Coming home to happy puppies after a long semester at college is one of the best parts of college.

9. "Wow, college changed you."

Coming back from college, you see a lot of the people from high school. Some for the better, some for worse.

10. "Couch, I'm back."

A dorm room bed doesn't even come close to what the comfort of your home couch is.

11. "I actually got out of bed and showered before 2pm"

I'd say its a win if you shower everyday. Let alone get out of bed and shower before the afternoon.

12. "Why do I need skills and talents to have a job?"

Lets see: does binge watching a whole show on Netflix in a week count as a skill?

13. "I missed my bed."

14. "No! I don't know what I want to do with my life!"

Apparently after one year of college, you're expected to know where you're going to work years down the road. Yeah, no.

15. "I'm ready to go back!"

Do I really have to wait until August?

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.
