Artistic minds work differently. That's just it. And I'm not making this up, if you don't trust me then do your research. It's scientifically proven that an artist's mind is complex and our brains work physically and chemically in a way that's different from other individuals. But what really makes us stand out from the crowd? What are those situations in which we react in a manner that's out of the ordinary? I dedicate the following list to all the creative people out there and to the least creative too. Why not? Maybe it will make you understand a few things about us and maybe you'll even discover you're not that un-creative after all.
Ready? Here we go with 15 things that make us, creative people, different.
1. When we work, we need silence.
I cannot emphasize this enough. We are seriously annoyed by someone talking to us while we're working. We would love to talk and listen to you as soon as we're done, just please zip it while we're working. Trust me, it's not personal. We love you, just try to understand.
2. We have an eye for color.
While you see red, we see amaranth, raspberry, scarlet, wine, vermillion, terra cotta, venetian, mahogany, etc. No, they're not the same!
3. The "will you draw me?" question.
Am I able to draw you? Yes, I probably can. Will I? No.
4. While we work, we look like living graffiti.
Artists are never known for their tidiness and cleanness. While we work, we're a mess and we can't work otherwise.
5. We observe everything. EVE-RY-THING.
Artistic people take it all in through their eyes. We love observing a sunset, a flower, empty spaces, full spaces, animals, buildings, objects, situations, etc. Please bear with us if we seem to zone out.
6. We are people watchers.
Personally, one of my guilty pleasures is sitting in a mall or park and just watching people, their behaviors and responses. We are not stalking you, we're observing and learning.
7. Drama drama. And feelings.
We tend to be a little bit dramatic and sensitive. Okay, very dramatic and sensitive. If you're an artist, writer, dancer or musician you know what I'm talking about.
8. We suck at math.
Seriously.
9. The love-hate relationship with our art.
We maintain a permanent love-hate relationship with our art. We love it in the night and just hate it in the morning. This remains an unexplained phenomenon among artists. Also, during the time that we hate it we will probably trash it, no matter how hard you try to convince us that it isn't that bad.
10. Inspiration hits in the most inappropriate moment.
2 a.m., while you're taking a shower, during a medical appointment, during church, you name it! And when it hits, we usually desperately reach for our notebooks (we always carry at least one, BTW).
11. We tend to be nocturne.
Most of the best works of art in history came to being in the wee hours of the morning. We would be happy working while other people sleep and sleeping while other people work.
12. We enjoy being alone.
We can be very social, but we surely know how to appreciate some alone time. Out of the blue we will just get tired of people and seek 10 to 15 minutes of alone time. Again, please don't take it personal. We really do love being with you!
13. We daydream. A lot.
Because of this we have trouble concentrating and often forget things. Sorry.
14. We love and enjoy with more passion.
Studies have shown that creative people are capable of loving and enjoying with far more passion than other people. Their words, not mine! We enjoy little details and we love with strength. We just can't help it.
15. Do. Not. Watch. Us. While. We. Work.
This is just a final warning. Please, do not watch us while we're working. This is for your own psychological and physical well being. You've been warned!
I am aware of the fact that some of this attributes are not positive or can have a negative effect, but they all make us who we are. And, believe me, we're proud of every single one of them. I could keep on going with the things that make us unique but I think 15 is enough to give you a peek into our messy, freakish beautiful worlds.
“All forms of madness, bizarre habits, awkwardness in society, general clumsiness, are justified in the person who creates good art.”
―Roman Payne, Rooftop Soliloquy
