You may not have thought about these at first, but you'll sure need them now!

Now since school is right around the corner, I’m sure you have all of your basic supplies. But here I have the essential back to school list that will make sure you’re fully prepared. Even if you have some of these items, now you have a dual purpose for them!

1. Laptop

Not only is it great for taking notes, but also great for looking up videos of dogs riding bikes when you have the time.

2. Sweatpants

If you have time to get ready for an 8am, bless your soul because I sure know I’ll most likely be going in the sweatpants I slept in.

3. Highlighter

No, not the one for paper. The one for you face so you can intimidate your other classmates by your glow to show how you’re a shining star.

4. Coffee

Not only does sipping on a cup of coffee in the morning makes you more awake, but it makes you look more sophisticated (hot chocolate works too for all those fellow coffee haters out there).

5. Tape

You really are gonna need something to keep your eyes open that early.

6. Planner

You’re of course going to need to write down your homework but you'll also need it to schedule time to nap in between classes.

7. A forklift

Textbooks are heavy people, you may need some help.

8. Gum

You may not know anyone the first day, but we all know once you whip out that pack of gum, everyones your best friend.

9. A small loan of a million dollars

Not only are textbooks heavy, they’re expensive too. And you can use what little money you have left to buy...

10. Ramen Noodles

For when your up until 2am reading your syllabi wondering how you’re gonna get 6 essays done in three days in the sixth week of school.

11. An Eraser

We all know we make a few mistakes the first week in class or not, like walking into the wrong dorm room. It’s okay, like erasers, people are forgiving sometimes.

12. A pen

Duel usage here as well. When your not taking notes you can write down that girl in your class’s name so you don’t forget it 20 minutes later when you need her help.

13. DJ Khaled

You will need someone to motivate you to get you through the day. And if no one else believes in you DJ Khaled will.

14. A Backpack

Now you’re saying; “Christine, of course I need a backpack to put all of my supplies in.” Well you’re not wrong. But you will also need it to carry your dog with you so you can sneak him on campus for comfort. And last but not least...

15. A Knife

Because even though the first day, or even the first week of the semester may be scary, you’re gonna kill it.

Good luck this year, and happy syllabus week!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
