Only people from small, country towns know the true essence of the small town vibe. Limited activities, farmland, mudding, and camouflage make a small southern town noticeable. But what makes Red Bank, South Carolina famous and extremely noticeable? Is it the lack of things to do, the possible bombing, or the murderer of the Charleston Nine? Here are some things that only people from Red Bank and towns alike know about small, southern towns:

1. A small town isn't truly on the map until it has an auto part store.

Well, Red Bank has 4 and counting. Every time they start building something, the residents get excited and it just turns out it's yet another auto parts store. Why can't Red Bank just get a Chick Fil A or some decent sit-down restaurant?

2. Rebel flags and deer emblems are on everything

trucks, clothes, tattoos, and more. If you don't know someone with most of these things, are you even truly from here?

3. No town is complete without a Walmart!

We've got that at least.

4. Want to go to a sit-down restaurant?

Take a pick: San Jose or the other generic Mexican restaurant. That's about it. Oh, and a Highway 55 which is decent.

5. You have to drive 30 minutes if you want to go anywhere or do anything productive.

6. You'll never run out of gas though!

There's a gas station on every corner.

7. Trucks are the most popular automobile of the little town.

They’re all decked out: spray painted, lifted, camo, you name it. (lol, sometimes all three)

8. We have our own town animal

Abraham the Camel.

9. Need a trusty steed?

Visit the local donkey farm for more information on how to buy a Red Bank donkey.

10. We've had a terrible kidnapping and murder that was right across the street from where White Knoll is currently at in 1985.

Sherri Smith was kidnapped and killed right in front of where White Knoll is at.

11. Harvest Fest

Our little version of a fair. It's so tiny and even has tilt-a-whirls. It's located at the main church in front of the high school.

12. Nothing ever normal happens in Red Bank, South Carolina.

How one randomly picks White Knoll out of a phone book to bomb, we'll never know...

13. There’s always that one park that floods intensely.

People took canoes out there one time.

14. The Lexington and White Knoll High school rivalry is real.

The school went on lockdown because there was a rumor of a Lexington student threatening to stab students at the pep rally.

15. Oh, and one of our own committed a hate crime.

Dylann Roof? Yeah, he attended our school sadly.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
