15 Things You Know If You Grew Up In La Grange, IL

Everyone loves the town they grew up in. All of your nostalgic (and embarrassing) childhood memories took place there. But MY hometown is really a cut above the rest. There's nowhere better than La Grange (except of course La Grange Park) and if you grew you in the 25 or the 26 you'll surely relate!

1. Downtown La Grange (DTLG) is THE place to be on a weekend night in middle school.

2. Tate's is the best ice cream around.

And bubblegum is the best flavor, just sayin'.

3. The Pet Parade isn't just a parade, it's a treasured holiday.

This 70 year old tradition brings out La Grange residents of all ages to watch countless floats pass by and catch candy. But the fun doesn't end there. After the parade comes the parties (especially the Kelly's legendary bash) which last all through the night.

4. Vintage Charm is the best place to buy birthday presents.

Or just cut things for yourself... Ok let's be real, mostly cute things for yourself!

5. The rivalries are cut throat.

And there are many! With the most infamous being the 25 vs. the 26, others include St. Francis vs. St. Cleatus, Ogden vs. Cossitt and Red Mango vs. Forever Yogurt (Red Mango, duh!).

6. But everyone can agree public enemy #1 is Hinsdale Central.

Whether you went to Lyons Township yourself or frequented LT football games on the weekends, nothing made you madder than Central kids in their white trash bags.

7. LFC was hoppin' every single day of the summer.

It is impossible to go here and not see at least 20 of your closest friends.

8. La Grange Country Club is the only place to be on the Fourth of July.

Coming in a close second would be sitting in Elm Park watching the country club's firework show.

9. Going to the La Grange Theater with a boy was the ultimate middle school date.

Bonus points if he took you to Cold Stone after.

10. If you didn't go to Palmer Place on St. Patrick's Day did you even celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

11. Di Nico's is the saving grace of anyone out past midnight.

Especially after Lolla!

12. The La Grange carnival was the height of the summer social season in middle school.

If you weren't there (most likely because your mom wouldn't let you go) you had FOMO for weeks.

13. All of the parks

You started off here playing games of cherry cherry with your pals after school and later graduated to sneaking out late at night to Stone Monroe to get your first "real kiss" (in front of at least 15 people, obviously).

14. My Grandpa's Store on Fridays.

If you forgot to ask your mom for $5 to stop and get candy on the way home from school on Fridays, you were stuck walking home alone.

15. Being so close to the greatest city in the world, Chicago!

Whether it's by car or by Metra, you're never more than a half an hour away from the city, unless of course it's rush hour and in that case God help you!

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
