I’ll admit it; sometimes I’m ungrateful for the relationship that I have with my parents. At times, they annoy me and we argue over silly things, but I need to remember how amazing they are to me more often. Our relationship has changed since I’ve moved to college; it has made me appreciate and love them more than ever. I want both my parents to know that, but especially my mom. Mama, here are a few things I may not always know how to say, but I am always thinking and feeling.
1. I know I can conquer anything with you in my corner.
Whether it be the recent break-up or friendship drama, I always have the best coach and biggest supporter and can get through anything.
2. Thank you for always pushing me out of my comfort zone.
Even when I feel as if it is the end of the world and I will die from embarrassment due to my awkwardness, I thank you for pushing me out of comfort zone, because some of those times have changed my life for the better.
3. Thank you for giving me your shopping habits and advice. You’re right. How often am I really going to wear that $45 hot pink dress?
Money doesn’t grow on trees, but especially not in college. As a college student, thank you for teaching me what is a wise purchase and what is not.
4. No matter what I throw at you, your patience amazes me. You may need time, but you never give up on me.
As you call it, even when I "drop bombs" on you, you still stay by side.
5. You don’t need to worry about me every day, but I appreciate that you do.
6. I can never forget those times I’ve said I hated you in my head. You may have not heard it, but it still hurts me and I hope you never think that is anywhere near true.
That was me being a stupid teenager and thinking anything that didn’t go my way was the end of the world. I was convinced you were trying to ruin my life, but I couldn’t have been more wrong.
7. The second best compliment I receive is that I look like you.
I get it all the time. Literally.
8. I would love to be half of who you are.
I occasionally get this compliment, but mainly from dad. I’m not sure if he means it as a compliment or not though.
9. Even though I know you can’t take care of me every day anymore, you should still always be the first person I call.
I’ve learned that even though you can’t drive up here and solve all my problems, I should still keep you in the know. Also, it might put your mind at ease to know that most of the problems I encounter are that I haven’t done laundry and have nothing to wear.
10. I never want to lose you. I can’t even imagine how different my life would be.
11. Thank you for always being proud of me even when I’m not proud of myself.
12. I take pride in calling you, my mama. You are amazing at what you do, whether it be your real job or being a full-time mom, and I’m proud to call you mine.
13. You really are my best friend no matter what.I will have so many friends, even best friends, throughout my life. However, you will always be my number one.
14. Some of my best memories are with you.
I’ll never forget Mexican date nights, nail salon trips and running around frantically, yet having fun, getting last minute stuff for prom or whatever the event may be.
