15 Things to Make This Summer the Best One Yet

As summer is finally starting to shine through these rainy filled clouds, we are starting to think about summer activities. We all want to be tan, get into shape, and do nothing else but soak up the sun. Summer 2018, has the potential to be the best summer yet. Here are some potential ideas to engage in during 2018's summer to make the most memorable summer ever!

1. Wake up early

No better way to get your day started instead of waking up early. This way you can be in the sun as long as it is out. Instead of sleeping in you get to tackle on the whole day and do more things then you would've expected.

2. Listen to music

Music for some people is their life. Music is known to make one's day better and more enjoyable. Throw on some tones to get your summer day's motivated and more enjoyable.

3. Be healthier

It is finally the summer time. We are here and have no more time to get that summer bod we all hoped for as we stuffed our faces all year. Here is your chance to make a difference with your diet as well as hit the gym. Summer is a great time to do this since one gets so much free time. There are also so many fruits that are in season that taste way better than a bag of chips.

4. Hang with old friends

Most of your friends will be back from college who you haven't seen or heard from all year. Reach out, make contact and bring back an old friend who you've drifted from. There is always more than enough room to bring more people into your life. Hanging out with friends is also good for the heart!

5. Go swimming

It is finally warm enough that we need to cool ourselves off. Summer is made for the beaches and pools. No matter where you live, find somewhere to cool off of on those 90 degree days. My personal favorite is the beach. No better place to tan but by a water's side.

6. Go for walks

Get outside and enjoy what's around you. Get lost in a place you've never stepped foot in before. The weather is finally beautiful enough to just walk around. If you hate the heat, go out for a nice stroll right before dusk. A nice excuse to see a sunset or sunrise.

7. Attend family Cookouts

What is summer without some family cookouts? It is always nice to catch up with your family and there is no better time but the summer.

8. Enjoy nature

Summer is the perfect opportunity to get out into the world. There is nothing better then seeing all the bright flowers, the sun shining off water, and beautiful animals coming out to enjoy the sun just like us.

9. Get Ice cream

Ice cream is known as the best treat in the summer. Even if you are vegan Ben & Jerry's just came out with so many vegan options! Ice cream is fresh and irresistible on a hot, sunny day. Grab a cone with some friends or family and enjoy every last lick.

10. Make some money

With no other worries in the world we'd have so many free days if we didn't all get a summer job. Even if it is only a few hours a week, money opens more opportunities for the summer. Why not stack up on some money before the school year is back.

11. Buy that concert ticket

We all dream of seeing our idols performing on stage. The school year can be exhausting. It is time to relax and do whatever makes us happy. Singing and dancing along to your favorite artist… I can't imagine anything better.

12. Travel

Everyone dreams of that magical place that they constantly dream about going. This summer, take the risk and go somewhere new. Whether it's into the city, to town over, a road trip, or out of the country, a vacation is a vacation. Time away from reality is well deserved. This summer get away and go somewhere new.

13. Attend festivals

Whether it is one of your town's festival or the 4th of July fireworks. Get out there, listen to some music, get on some rides, and do not forget to enjoy yourself. This summer is about you

14. Go to a museum, aquarium, and/or a zoo

Sometimes the heat can be to much but, you'll still want to do something but not stay at home. A museum or the aquarium is something fun and entertaining to do over the summer and allows you to stay cool. If you don't mind the heat get out to a Zoo and see some animals.

15. Make memories

Life is all about making the best out of things. Even if you cannot do all the these things you can have a successful summer.

"I've only slept nine hours over the past four days, so I'm right on the verge of a nervous breakdown." - Leslie Knope

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
