As finals come to a close and summer comes in to view we wonder, "what the hell are we supposed to do now?" With many MSUM students staying in the FM area for the summer it can be difficult to find things to do besides watching Netflix and hitting up Spicy Pie for the thousandth time. So, I've rounded up a list of fun activities available right here in Fargo/Moorhead!

1. Thunder Road

Whether you enjoy mini golfing, laser tag, batting cages, racing, or arcades, they've got it all!

2. Head downtown

There are so many unique and one-of-a-kind shops and eateries downtown in Fargo that you and your bestie could spend an entire day looking, eating, and shopping 'til you drop.

3. Farmer's market

What's more fun than fresh produce? Well, a lot actually, but the FM Farmers Market is held weekly with a wide variety of produce and other natural fare, and summer is all about cooking/grilling isn't it?

4. Volunteering

There are plenty of options for donating your time toward this summer! Such as:

-Boys and Girls Club

-Multiple Sclerosis Association of America

-Junior Achievement USA

-Elder help

The list goes on! Use some of your downtime to help those in need. Plus it always looks great on applications and resumes.

5. Island Park

Whether you hit up the trails, see a performance, or go play tennis, Island Park has quite a lot to offer!

6. Try out some new pins

As you've probably guessed I enjoy Pinterest very much. There is always something new, exciting, and innovative on their site! So scroll back through some of your older pins and try that recipe that once caught your eye, try out a new DIY project, or find a good read!

7. Stargazing

I haven't had time to do this myself so I'm not sure where a great spot would be, but stargazing with friends is always a fun time. Do some searching around the outskirts of town and let me know!

8. Read a book

I know classes can suck the enjoyment out of reading for us, myself included, but you should never stop reading. Find a topic or genre you love and read at least one book this summer. (You could also hit up Zandbros bookstore down town, they have a huge selection of classics, as well as up-and-comers, and even local zines!)

9. The Red River Zoo

While I don't love zoos all that much, because of animals not being in their own habitats/quality of life, but the Red River Zoo is nicer than some I've seen, and they have a wide variety of animals to see.

10. Art museums

Who doesn't love a good painting? Whether you hit up the Rourke Art Museum in Moorhead, or the Plains Art Museum in Fargo you're definitely in for a treat!

11. The Historic Fargo Theatre

Also located downtown, the Fargo Theatre shows movies of all genres, and time periods, while also welcoming performances of all kinds. Last Spring Jack White played one of his impromptu shows there!

12. Fargo Air Museum

If you like planes this is the place for you.

13. Take a walk

There are many, many parks in the FM area with lovely walking/biking trails and wonderful scenic views. Stay active and take a lap!

14. Red Hawks game

Enjoy a classic summer evening watching a baseball game, having some cheesecurds, a beer, and a hot dog at Newman Outdoor Field while watching the Red Hawks play America's past time.

15. Hit up the Fargodome

With a plethora of shows, and activities constantly coming through the Fargodome it's hard not to find a show you'll enjoy! From the circus, to motocross exhibitions, and even world renowned pop sensations the Fargodome has a lot to offer!

Some of the things on this list are on mine too! So put "How to Get Away with Murder" on pause, give your Facebook posting a break, and get out to enjoy our city! See you out there.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

Find excitement in your life and start exploring wherever you are right here, right now.

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.
