15 Things To Do Before Graduation

Take it all in before it's over.

15 Things To Do Before Graduation

I'll be honest: I've been counting down the day's until graduation. Half of this is because of how excited I am to finally walk across that stage and get my diploma after all of my hard work, and the other half of me counts down because I'm terrified.

School has been my entire life for the past four years. It has brought me joy, friendship, some very late nights, lots of tears, and memories I wouldn't change for anything. But now? I'll be leaving.

This upcoming change is going to require a few adjustments (and by a few, I mean a lot), but as much as I am scared and sad to leave, I know there are great things ahead of me. There are just a few things we seniors need to do before graduation:

1. Decorate Your Cap.

It's got to be cute. And sentimental. And traditional. And funny. And reference something that no one will understand... and it's got to all fit.

2. Do A "Bang Out" Weekend With Friends

Everyone will be going separate ways soon, so it's important to get together and relish in the time you have left.

3. Get Through Finals.

This sucks because, well, senioritis.

4. Figure Out What You're Doing For Summer

Because after a densely packed semester, you can't stomach the idea of doing nothing for two months. A solid week of nothing should suffice.

5. Say Goodbye to Professors and Friends

This one is particularly difficult. Goodbyes suck, especially when they involve such a large presence in your life.

6. Say Thank You to Professors and Friends

Because, really, are there any other words?

7. Try to Coordinate Family Plans and Friend Plans for Post-Graduation

Everyone's families will be in the weekend of graduation, and of course families want their time with you, while friends want time with you as well. The cross over will be hectic, but it needs to be balanced and it needs to be done.

8. Get Graduation Presents

A warning to all friends: they will be sappy.

9. Take Senior Photos

Professional or not, just take a few photos, on campus, with friends, to remember these four years.

10. Walk Through Campus One Last Time

Everyone walks through campus. A lot. But I think it's important to do a round one more time, to take it all in and realize that this is it: it could all be different if/when you ever come back.

11. Have a Sleepover with Friends

You'll never be in this close proximity again, so just try to suck it up as they keep you awake with their snoring.

12. Have a Good Crying Session

Things are changing. It's okay to freak out.

13. Participate in all Senior Activities

You're a senior, and you deserve to take a break from class and work and finally celebrate that you've made it through the past four years.

14. Mentally and Physically Prepare Yourself

Practice walking across stage in those heels. Also repeat "don't cry. don't cry. don't cry," to yourself so you don't actually cry when they hand you that diploma.

15. Celebrate

You've done it! Congrats! You have survived four years, and while the future may be looming ahead, you deserve to sit back and celebrate with the people you love. This is a huge accomplishment. Don't forget that.

The 5 Painfully True Stages Of Camping Out At The Library

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

"I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever else invented copy and paste. Thank you."

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.
