15 Things To Be Grateful For
Huffington Post

I've learned many things since I've come to college. I've learned to take quizzes seriously. I've learned how to avoid the lunch rush in the dining hall. I've learned how to live on my own. And I've learned how to be a professional complainer. Seriously, if I majored in complaining I'd graduate top of my class. Being ungrateful seems like one of college students favorite hobbies. I'm sure no one is purposely only focusing on their struggles, sometimes it's just easier to only see what you don't like. There's so much stress that tags along with college: money, school work, not being able to rely on your parents, but there's also so much to be grateful for.

1) A good roommate. You're living with this person for a year so you're gonna have to learn to live with them, and it's easier if you like them.

2) The friends you make. If you're like me and coming from six hours away, or anywhere from out of state, you probably aren't going to know many people going into this. The friends you make are going to be your safe haven from a bad day.

3) Learning how to cook. Microwaved dinners are going to get old really quick. The dining halls will get old even quicker. Be careful advertising that you know how to cook, you may end up making dinner for the whole floor.

4) Student Discounts. We're all broke. 10% off makes a difference.

5) Winning a football game. There's no greater feeling then losing your voice from cheering.

5) Puppies. You know you have a mini freak out when you see someone walking their dogs on campus.

6) Fall Break. It's mid-term season and fall break saves you from endless nights studying.

7) Chic-fil-a on campus. You know you eat it more than you should and you just don't care.

8) $5 take-out deals. Who doesn't like cheap food and not having to cook?

9) A good laugh. Sometimes all you need to mend a ruined day is a good laugh.

10) A good cry. Sometimes you just have to let it all out, and I mean like a Kim Kardashian let it all out type of cry.

11) A clean room. Not having to share your bed or your desk chair with all of your clothes can be kinda nice.

12) Finding money. Okay I lied when I said that there was no greater feeling then winning a football game. Finding money in your backpack or the jeans you should have washed three wears ago trumps that completely.

13) Your family. You'll learn to miss fighting with your siblings and your parents.

14) Netflix. I'm just gonna leave this one here.

15) Naps. I bet by the time you got to high school you started to regret fighting nap time in pre-school now, aren't you? If you make your schedule right, you can get plenty of napping in, no more falling asleep in fourth period.

Maybe next time you feel like complaining about all that comes along with college that annoys you, you'll think of all of the great things about it too.

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

1. When you've finally found the energy to leave your dorm room and walk into the lib like

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
