A few days ago, I left the wonder and glory of my SEC home at The University of Alabama and visited my neighbors to the north at The University of Alabama-Huntsville. One might believe that the 150-mile difference and the almost-identical school names make these two schools more alike than different, but that is not the case. UAH has a student population one-fifth the size of Bama's, and Greek life really takes a backseat. The second I pulled into the parking lot at UAH, I knew I was in for an adventure, as traveling less than halfway across the state felt like moving to another country. Here are some thoughts that crossed my mind, be prepared to feel the same way if you spend a weekend away from your college home.
1. Wow, there is parking everywhere. I guess this is what happens when only, like, 250 people go to your school.
2. Okay, gotta find where my friend lives. On campus, that's weird. That's apparently not just a freshman thing here.
3. Why are all these people acting like they know each other? Oh. They do.
4. It's 9:30 p.m. and no one is flooding out of dorms to go out – where even is fraternity row? What do you do on Thursdays?
5. Identity crisis. No one here has on my letters. My sorority isn't even on this campus because it only has three.
6. Are these people awkward, or just a thousand times smarter than me? Both.
7. Friday morning. PEOPLE ARE DRESSING UP FOR CLASS.
8. GIRLS WEAR T-SHIRTS THAT FIT.
9. I could never go here, I would have to replace my entire wardrobe.
10. At least the temperature outside is the same, shoutout to that Alabama heat.
11. I would be popular here in five seconds.
12. Maybe not, I can't talk about nuclear reactors and rocket engines like these people can.
13. I think I saw that person an hour ago – how many students go here again?
14. At least they all look nice. This isn't that scary. Nerdy. But not scary.
15. This place needs bigger shirts and a football team, but overall, not so bad.
