15 Things They Don't Tell You About College

Before I graduated high school and journeyed off to college, I thought college would be exactly like high school just way harder. In some cases, it can be, but in other ways, it can be easier. However, no one ever told me or mentally prepared me for the funny things that will happen when you actually become a college student living the college life.

1. You'll either be incredibly busy...

or incredibility bored.

2. Freshman 15 is real.

You will either gain 15 pounds or lose 15 pounds.

3. You don't get laid all the time in college.

Yes, Schmidt, it's true.

4. Get used to not having any personal space.

5. You're probably not going to be best friends with your roommate.

But try to get along. You are living with them. It's a two-way street.

6. Don't trust the first people you meet. You probably won't be best friends.

Don't take it to heart, they just found a different crowd just like you did or will do.

7. College is not a party 24/7.

But you will probably will have a couple Wine Wednesdays.

8. Personal hygiene goes down the drain.

When was the last time I showered? Oh wait, it rained yesterday, that counts.

9. It's common to have many mental breakdowns during your college career.

10. Don't be afraid to ask for help.

Your professors and advisers want to help you; they just might not know you're struggling. So just ask!

11. Homesickness can affect any one (even the townies).

12. Don't revolve around you significant other. Find your own friends.

If you do unfortunately break up, you're going to want to have your friends to bitch and cry to.

13. Being poop shy ... kiss those days goodbye.

You're going to have to poop sometimes ... so just do it. No one gives a shit.

14. Your parents may be horrible cooks (or they don't cook at all like my parents) but you'll miss their cooking.

15. Don't be afraid to seek out opportunities that help you find yourself.

As cheesy as it sounds, college is where you find yourself. Don't waste your time trying to be someone you're not.

RBF
Pop Trigger / YouTube

I'll admit it, I have a condition called RBF or, if you will, Resting Bitch Face.

Anna Kendrick, poor Kristen Stewart, the Queen of England are all life-long sufferers of RBF. Victoria Beckham even made a career out of it! And though it's usually used to describe women, some men are also afflicted. Kanye West is the best example of this.

April Ludgate
NBC Universal

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
