15 Things That Only People Who Attend SCSU Will Understand
St. Cloud State University

St Cloud State is located in central Minnesota, if you're a student here or an alumni here are a few thing you'll relate to.

1. "Oh you're going to a party school!"

We all know that feeling. Telling people you are attending SCSU and they say, "You attending for the parties?" We all know the history of it being a party school.

2. Hockey school completely.

If you don't know anything about hockey, you better read up on it before coming. SCSU revolves around the hockey games due to it being our only D1 sport. If you are in the Dog Pound, Puppy Pound, Student Broadcast Crew, or from the community, it's always an eventful time. "Sieve, you suck!"

3. Commuter School.

With only being 50 minutes to the Twin Cities, many students leave for the weekend. So you can expect campus always being dead during those times.

4. "Thirstday Thursday"

Now I'm pretty sure this is a tradition at all colleges but SCSU was always talking about Thursday Nights. The bars would be packed and there were always those house parties getting busted. The SCSU motto is to not take classes on Friday, and if you do, you probably won't make a good majority of those classes.

5. The Quarries.

Coming back in the fall or if you're in St. Cloud for the summer, the quarries is always a must! There is cliff jumping, tanning, scuba diving, rock climbing and hiking. There is always something to do at the quarries.

6. Val's.

When you pull up to this shack for the first time, your first thoughts are, "Really? How can this be the talk of the town?" Then you get their food and it's the best food ever. Plus it's super cheap for all us broke college students!

7. Parking Tickets.

We all have done it. We've tried to park on campus just to run in for a few minutes and come out with a nice $25 dollar parking ticket. Public Safety never seemed to cut us a break and now they have start 24/7 monitored parking. It's not like we pay $16,000 a year to go here anyways, right?

8. Some great professors and some not so great professors.

We all have had those professors that have helped us pass a class, curve our grades, and make a real difference in our lives. We also have had some professors get caught for smuggling rhino horns into the country and selling them. Totally illegal and totally random.

9. The Beaver Island.

This is a great place to go for a bike ride, run and even boating/canoeing. It's extremely beautiful in the fall with all the changing colors.

10. Munsinger Gardens

Beautiful flower garden and trails along the Mississippi River. Great place to take a relaxing walk, go with your friends or loved ones, and enjoy a swing along the river. Beautiful place to go in the spring!

11. Brother's "Mug Club"

Before you turn 21, all your over 21 friends are talking about how great Brothers "Mug Club" is Thursday nights. Once I turned 21, I understood why. You buy a mug and your first drink for $6 and it's only a $1 drinks all night with you mug. THEN, you get to keep your mug so you only have to pay a $1 every Thursday or Sunday night. Pretty epic!

12. No Homecoming!!

Back in 1988, there were riots that happened after an SCSU homecoming game. Ever since that we have not been allowed to have a homecoming. Instead we have "Family Weekend." Lame, I know. I think it's been long enough since this these riots and SCSU deserves a homecoming weekend.

13. Lake George.

Lake George is the perfect spot to go for a run. They have a path around the lake and a larger path around the lake and park area. It's an awesome spot to go ice skating during the winter time. In the summer they have Summertime by Lake George which is every Wednesday night and they have concerts. They also rent out canoes, paddleboards, and paddle boats.

14. Only Freshman live in the dorms. Everyone else lives off campus.

There are also those that choose to live in the dorms after freshmen year, but typically you find a run down house off campus or a nice apartment off campus. Let's be honest though, one year in the dorms was enough for me.

15. Once a Husky, Always a Husky.

Some love it, some hate it. But, we are always in a pack! Huskies stick together. #GOHUSKIESWOOOOO

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.

I am without a doubt one of those people who refuses to start decorating for Christmas or listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, Thanksgiving has become an underrated holiday over the years. You barely see any Thanksgiving decorations in stores; it's like they skip right from Halloween to Christmas.
