Picture it: a small Catholic high school set in the middle of Dunmore, PA. It may not seem like much with its tiny building, attached/mobile classrooms, and small number of students, but one cannot deny the uniqueness of it. Each school has it's own quirks and this school is no different! Here is a list of things that current students and even alumni can relate to about Holy Cross High School.

1. The Alma Mater is and forever will be your jam.

You know all of the words and don't even try to deny it. There was once a time when everyone sang it at every event possible, even basketball games.

2. Demerit City.

Every freshman who ever had to take English knew what Demerit City was.

3. You knew when someone had just taken a Deleo test.

World Cultures with Mr. Deleo was always a rough time and his tests seemed impossible. Trying to remember the whole construction of Rome and its timeline was enough to send people crying.

3. Those required Type III assignments.

The easiest and most dreaded assignments. "What are the FCAs for this one again?"

4. Wanting to give Mrs. Gatrone her new bio lab.

When there are 21 people trapped inside the tiny lab on a hot day trying to concentrate on flatworms, we all realize the struggle and the desire for a new lab.

5. Air Conditioning.

Need I explain? Every teacher swears that if they win the lottery, they are building a new school WITH AC.

7. They are not called trailers...

We prefer mobile classrooms or learning villas, thank you very much.

8. That long list of people who got called to the office for leaving books on top of their lockers.

Every morning there would be at least six people called to the office for this offence.

9. Ugly Christmas Sweater Day is basically a holiday that must be observed.

It is literally the best day out of the entire school year when girls and guys dig into their mother's and grandmother's closets for those gaudy holiday sweaters,

10. You own more articles of Holy Cross apparel than you'd like to admit.

Especially sweatshirts and hats sold by sports teams that you clearly did not play.

*Bonus points if you paid the extra $3 to have your name printed on the back

11. Pep rallies with Mr. Buzad were always the best.

Left side: WE ARE

Right side: HOLY CROSS

12. Class Olympics

The best day out of Spirit Week. It's always exciting to see what each class' mascot is and who will win (but it's always the seniors).

13. Always being offered bonus points on tests if the football team won the game that weekend.

It would take a miracle to get those bonus points since the Crusaders never win any games (except for that one time we beat Mid Valley).

14. "In the beginning...not that far back"

The famous saying that began every senior theology class.

15. Jamie Kotula

Not everyone who goes to Holy Cross knew Jamie personally, but his name is well-known here and is close to this community's heart.

A Few Thoughts Every College Freshman Has

The transition into adulthood is never easy

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
