For as long as I can remember, I’ve lived in Fenton, Michigan. Population 11,574, and seven square miles of pure hometown feel on Michigan’s east side. Anyone who is from this quaint little town can understand that it might just be the most comforting place in the world. It's always there to welcome us home when we've been away and is never short of things to do. Here’s a few things only those from the good ‘ol city of Fenton can understand.
1. The Laundry isn’t a place for dirty clothes, but maybe one of the finest dining establishments in the 810. And making a visit to Crust, the bakery, afterwards is always a delicious treat!
2. Uncle Ray’s Dairyland is easily the best ice cream shop in the entire world with the happiest workers. With everything from hand-made ice cream, to delicious ice cream cakes, they've got our hearts.
3. Each fall, the festival comes to town, and we all gather at Saint Johns for the beloved Applefest. There's no better place to ride the Octopus and stuff your face with popcorn and cotton candy.
4. VG's is the only grocery store you could ever imagine going to. Even though we are all still mourning the loss of Farmer Jack's.
5. Sweet Variations was everyone’s favorite after school candy stop.
6. Everyone takes their high school dance pictures at the Millpond Gazebo, and I mean everyone. But the most beautiful weddings take place here too!
7. When it’s time to graduate, Fenton House caters everyone’s graduation parties. The pizza and breadsticks make life so good!
8. There’s nothing better than a nice stroll through Dibbleville during Free Summer Thursday Concerts in the Park.
9. Speaking of Dibbleville, only those from Fenton understand what this place is. Sweet and full of history!
10. Sagebrush Cantina has mouthwatering Mexican food that we all crave on Saturday nights, which is of course when they’re busiest. But we would all wait hours to get our hands on that yummy food.
11. Silver Lake Park is fun filled with the ski show on Tuesday summer nights and a popular hangout during the hot summer afternoons.
12. The Cornerstone building increased traffic and brought Saganos to the scene, and for that we are thankful.
13. The best fruit and vegetables can be found at the Farmer’s Market on Thursday nights in downtown.
14. Home to a bunch of beautiful lakes that most of us live on. Lake Fenton, Silver Lake, Marl Lake, Loon Lake, Byram Lake, Crane Lake, and many more!
15. But most of all, home to the most loving people: the Fentonians!
I couldn't imagine living in a better place with better people. No matter where I go, Fenton will always be home.
