The Parent Trap is undoubtedly one of the great classic movies of our childhood. Not only have girls from our generation seen it somewhere close to 50 times, but it also serves as the basis for many of the things we grew to love. Here are some of the ways The Parent Trap influenced our childhood, and even beyond.
1. Peanut butter and oreos.
When Lindsay Lohan dips "Milk's favorite cookie" into her jar of creamy peanut butter, it's impossible not to immediately crave this savory treat.
2. Pranks.
Feathers, honey, and fans make for a killer prank. The looks on the camp counselors' faces when they are hit with these harmless weapons was priceless. You also can't forget when they put the beds on the roof of the cabin. It's totally practical to think a girl could do that herself -- right? Either way, we were all feeling extra mischievous after watching the battle of the pranks.
3. Leonardo DiCaprio.
I don't even think I thought boys were cute at this point in my life. I guess her poster of this famous actor proved otherwise.
4. Eating in your room.
When Annie arrives at Hallie's awesome Califonian home she is ecstatic that Chessy, the housekeeper, lets her eat in her room. I don't even think I knew this was an option prior to seeing this movie.
5. Peppermints and pipe tobacco --and grandfathers.
You've got to love the sweet British grandfather who nonchalantly plays such a pivotal role in getting the parents back together. I can't even count how many times I quoted the peppermints and pipe tobacco line.
6. Handshakes.
Who hasn't tried to replicate the super impressive handshake that Annie made with her butler, Martin? I bet that number is pretty slim.
7. Checklists.
Lip balm? Check. Sunscreen? Check. Annie's checklist for camp always made me feel like I justmust make one for any occasion.
8. Fencing.
Fencing? What's that? Annie and Hallie introduced fencing through this movie in their infamous scene, and pretty much make it seem like the coolest sport.
9. A secret twin.
Who didn't want a secret twin ? Pretty much nothing else could be cooler.
10. Ear piercing.
Even though Annie screams bloody murder, the apple/needle DIY piercing was too intriguing. I can't say I didn't try it myself.
11. England.
Accents, butlers, and classy outfits, and fancy buildings and culture -- England looks wonderful.
12. Jeep Wranglers.
When Annie and Hallie go camping with their dad, they swing down into his Jeep Wrangler. I tried this in every car my parents had -- it just doesn't work the same.
13. Dinner on a boat.
Annie and Hallie surprise their parents with a dinner cruise, and nothing could look more magical.
14. Cuppy.
Who says stuffed animals aren't cool? Hallie's stuffed bunny, Cuppy, is not only adorable, but clearly loved by the cool twin.
15. Traveling alone.
Even though they are just kids, Annie and Hallie are naturals navigating the airport, and taking taxis and such. I was ready to hail my own transportation, luggage and all.
