As a new year passes by, I always think of it as basic and average. I don't realize that anything significant happened (other than 2014 when I graduated high school, left my hometown, and went to college).
Sometimes I do reflect back on what I've learned over the past year when I'm feeling ~deep~ and ~thoughtful~. I'm sure my reflections have changed over the years and I sure hope that they have developed as well. If you think about it, New Year's Eve is actually the most uneventful holiday ever. People get dressed up and get absolutely obliterated, but for what? To celebrate a number changing. Technically the time on the clock changes every day and no one celebrates that. I think it's the significance of starting a new year, having a fresh start. That's why reflections are important: they allow us to not make the same mistakes we did the year before.
