15 Things To Get Excited About This Fall

Autumn or fall...whatever you call it, it's right around the corner. Fall is my favorite season. We eat a lot and wear a lot, and everything has something to do with pumpkins. Everyone becomes at least a little bit more of a basic girl once September starts rolling by, and we should enjoy it. Here’s why:

1. Pumpkin spice my world

Anything that can be spiced with pumpkin should be: pumpkin-spiced latte, pumpkin-spiced iPhone, pumpkin-spiced Febreeze, pumpkin-spiced Band-Aids, we want it all.

2. Leggings

There are very strong and mixed opinions about wearing leggings as pants. It depends on the situation and setting of course, but if the situation is living and the setting is Planet Earth, then leggings are exactly what you need.

3. Leaves changing colors

Never has a chemical reaction looked so romantic. Since you’re probably too old to play in the fallen leaves (you’re not), stick to age-appropriate activities like Instagramming the scenery and sketching park benches.

4. Snuggle weather

Cooler weather, scenic views and scary movies. It’s a season for coupling, and that might not fly if you’re single, so consider investing in a body pillow if you are.

5. Boots

All kinds of boots: combat, riding, booties, and so many more. We know you have about five pairs of riding boots. This also means breaking out the leggings and vests so you can start dressing like Han Solo. May the fall be with you.

6. Fall foods

Aside from all the pumpkin madness happening during the autumn months, you’ve got apple cider, apple cider donuts, kettle corn, apple pie, and salted caramel just to name a few. The list is endless, and I love it all.

7. Fall colors are back in style

I’m talking auburns, jewel tones, and berry colors. Technically, these colors never go out of style, but fall fashion seems to bring a whole new collection of sweaters, jeans, and jackets in all of these awesome pallets.

8. Apple picking

Chances are if you were raised somewhere that apples grow, your family loaded into the wagon one weekend and went apple picking. But this activity isn’t just one for family fun, this is a fun fall day trip to take with friends too. You’re never too grown up to go good old apple picking!

9. Jeans

Fall means back to your favorite love/hate relationship with jeans. By the end of most days you rip jeans off as soon as you get home, because who really enjoys pants? But when you find a pair of jeans that fit perfectly, they can change your life and totally up your boot-jean-sweater combo.

10. Halloween movies

Arguably the best part of fall is kicking back with some popcorn and watching "Hocus Pocus." Every. Single. Night.

11. Pumpkin carving

Nothing says fall quite like gutting out a giant pumpkin, giving it a face and putting a candle in it! Anything for the kids.

12. Hayrides and haunted houses

Two of the most classic fall activities. We hope you don’t have a problem with hay poking your butt while riding in a rocky trailer across uneven ground, because these staples of fall are not to be missed.

13. Sweaters

No matter how many annoying “sweater weather” tweets you come across, you can’t help but also rejoice in the fact that you can hang up your tanks and tees and trade them in for something more snuggly.

14. Fireplaces, fire pits, bonfires, etc.

After your long day of apple picking, hayrides, and pumpkin carving, you can retire near a crackling fire. The warmth and smell of kindling is a staple, and it’s one that reminds you of how beautiful fall can be. Plus, you get to spend the next few days trying to get the smell out of your hair and clothes.

15. Thanksgiving

No holding back. Get your comfy pants on, this is a holiday about the food. Yes, there is history behind it, and it’s a day where you’re supposed to reflect and feel thankful, but we all know the turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes are the real stars here.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
