15 Things I Did Before Finally Starting On My Homework

Aggressive procrastination: we've all been there.

1. Watched Netflix

This is standard procedure, of course. The key is to start a long established program with several seasons available for streaming, just in case you get the urge to be productive later.

2. Became Ordained

Apparently, you can become ordained online and now I can legally marry people in the state of Oklahoma. So that’s a thing that I actually spent money on.

3. Tried to Learn the Song "Le Festin" from Ratatouille

It’s just a really nice song. I don’t really understand French at all, so I have no idea how well I am actually learning it, or if I’m even pronouncing the words correctly. Also, I’m not quite sure how putting song lyrics through Google qualifies as an actual translation, but apparently that’s standard YouTube lyric video procedure.

4. Cleaned My Room

Pretty basic, but if you really think about it, it isn’t procrastination because I’m just being a different kind of productive. Bonus points if you find something nostalgic and spend a half hour thinking about the past.

5. Stared at the Mirror

I don’t think of myself as a “vain” person, but I spend an inordinate amount of time staring into my mirror just looking at myself, occasionally singing, acting, or practicing my Oscar acceptance speech. I received the award for best director, by the way.

6. Rewarded Myself for Doing the Bare Minimum

Just rested in my hammock, alone with my thoughts and an introspective Spotify playlist.

7. Color Coded My Google Drive

Only because you can’t really reorganize all of the files on your computer more than like, twice, in any given time period. Also, when I do decide to begin working, I can have a much more efficient workflow now that my folder colors correlate to my calendar.

8. Tried to Memorize a Poem

I say “tried” not because I couldn’t memorize it, but if I really want the words to stick I’ll probably have to look at it more than just when I’m procrastinating on an assignment. I’ve got the first couple verses now though, so that’s good.

9. Watched More Netflix

Specifically, the series I began earlier because there’s still six more seasons left.

10. Applied for a Summer Job

Again, I think I should get a break on this one because I’ll have to apply for a summer job eventually, and I might as well get a head start now so I can procrastinate by doing everything on this list three months from now.

11. Bought Art Supplies

I don’t typically procrastinate by actually making art that I could use to expand my portfolio or develop my skills. I just buy more things because material objects make me feel happy.

12. Read a Book

I almost never have time to just sit down and read. Every single time, I forget how amazing they are. It’s like a movie in your head. Books are amazing, honestly, everyone should try them.

13. Organized My Desktop

My literal desktop. I mean, there’s a finite number of ways I can rearrange my pencils, but I’ll be damned it I don’t find them all.

14. Laundry

Which in itself isn’t actually time intensive except that I watched Netflix while it was running, and while I was folding it. So, it probably took longer than necessary.

15. Made a To-Do List

Good. Now I have a clear outline of what I need to do, I just have to get it done, one thing at a time. First thing off the list: eat dinner.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
