15 Things About My 15-year-old Cat
Angela Dow

In all of my years as a human being, I have loved cats. I believe that cats are some of the most pure creations on the earth, and have lived with one since I was a young child. Today I would like to share with you some wonderful things about my cat.

Don't get me wrong: all cats deserve love, but I happen to think that my cat is special.

Here are 15 super extraordinary things about my 15-year-old cat, accompanied by pictures to greater enrich your joy.

1. When she sleeps, it is in the formation of a perfect orb.

2. There are moments when my cat is asleep and pauses her breathing, making me think she’s dead, and then resumes breathing only to give me hope that not all good things are ending in the world.

3. When I'm sad and she walks up to me, makes a “hello” sound, and proceeds to poke me with her face- it completely brightens my life.

4. When she falls asleep right next to my face, I feel like no bad guy or intruder would stand a chance against her. She's like a ninja creature.

5. My cat is almost always down to celebrate, and loves to be the center of attention. Here she is pictured joining the celebration of my high school graduation.

6. I don't know about you, but my cat knowswhen I'm upset. I mean, my mom knows too, but my cat— she knows. and she doesn’t ask questions. She just shows up and makes me feel so much better.

7. When I'm away for a long time and arrive at home, she is the first one running at the door to welcome me- I feel special.

8. She hugs me like a human with her adorable little paws, except its even better because she isn’t a human.

9. Her name is Scratcher because my brother named her and was afraid of being scratched by her when he was four years old, but we all know she’s too kind for that. she's soft and not a scratcher.

10. Just looking at her is stress-reliving in itself. She always looks pleasant and peaceful.

11. To be truthful, i love her sometimes just for how ridiculous she looks and how much laughter she brings into my life.

12. Her paws. (I mean, really?!)

13. She is always in the mood to snuggle and she falls asleep while purring and it’s my favorite thing.

14. She is so photogenic that nearly my entire Instagram page is filled with beautiful cat pictures- I would have it no other way.

15. My cat thinks that my bed is her bed and makes sure to remind me of that whenever I happen to leave it un-made-- rather, she thinks intentionally so that she can have a happy little kitty nap.

The thing about my cat is that there are so many things about my cat- she is wonderful in many, many ways.

I hope you enjoyed this slightly humorous and potentially exaggerated declaration of my love for my cat.

I stand by my conviction that they are the best furry creatures.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
