15 Surprisingly Delicious Snacks You Can Still Eat On Keto

In This Article:

If you've ever tried the keto diet, you will know the dietary restrictions can be extremely rough when you don't know what to snack on. No carbs, no sugar... what else is there to eat? Prior to contrary belief, being keto does not mean you need to eat only meat every single day.

In fact, protein should only make up about half of your diet. Instead, being keto means eating more fat. Yes, fat. It's not always a bad thing to consume fat, which is why the diet works. Finding good substitutes for snacks can be a little challenging, however, I've found a few that really seem to keep me full for longer periods of time.

1. String cheese.

It's a good thing that cheese is keto, otherwise, I'd be doomed. My go-to snack for when I'm in a rush is a Sargento sharp cheddar cheese stick. These don't get old.

2. Nuts.

Although certain nuts can be extremely high in carbs (peanuts, cashews), there is a large portion of them that are fairly low (almonds, cashews). Just enough for the perfect snack.

3. Vegetable-based chips.

They obviously aren't as tasty as a flamin' hot bag of Cheetos, but a kale chip can end up being just as satisfying when you know how much better it is for you.

4. Low-carb snack bars.

Although some of the "healthy" snack bars have more carbs than you can imagine, there are even snack bars made specifically for keto. These would be your best option, plus, they do keep you full for hours.

5. Sugar-free Jell-o or Popsicles.

I stocked up on all the sugar-free snacks when I first started the diet. Sometimes a Popsicle hits the spot perfectly.

6. Olives.

I know that not everyone likes olives, but I love them. So, this is the perfect snack for me. I can finish a whole can of black olives in one sitting with no shame. You should try it sometime.

7. Jalapeño Poppers.

Meat, cheese and jalapeños. They aren't that difficult to make and they prove to be great for a movie night snack, IMO.

8. Charcuterie Boards.

Make yourself a fancy display of different cold-cuts and cheeses and you'll be more intrigued to eat it. Try some new varieties each time to spice things up a bit!

9. Hard-boiled eggs.

My personal preference is a soft-boiled egg. Either way, these make delicious snacks. Putting some chipotle spice on top can really add more pizzaz.

10. Fruits.

As long as you don't overdo the fruits, nobody said eating fruit on keto was a bad thing. Keep the sugar content low and you should be fine.

11. Almond Butter.

Eating a spoonful can be fun sometimes, but even dipping celery in almond butter is just as yummy.

12. Guacamole.

One of the most popular keto food items is avocado and what's better than a giant bowl of guac? Find some cucumbers for dipping and enjoy!

13. Beef Jerky.

I'm not a personal fan of this one but I know lots of people that would die for some jerky right now. It's the perfect keto snack, and you won't feel bad eating the whole bag.

14. Lox.

One of my all-time favorites, salmon. Especially the sushi-grade kind. Pair this with some cream cheese if you please and you're all set.

15. Moon Cheese.

You can find these in your local Whole Foods, but moon cheese is basically chips made only from cheese. So you can feel guilt-free as you snack on them!

Although it can be hard to pass up the Hershey's in CVS, just think about all the health benefits you're getting from eating the way you do!

Ten Truths Every Honors Student Knows

One of the main reasons I came to Salem State was I was offered a spot in the honors program. While it offered many benefits, scholarships and priority registration to name a few, what drew me in was the strong sense of community and close knit friendships many found. I am glad to say that that I did find these things, and so much more. I found a home made up of some of the most brilliant and most unique people I have ever met. Being in an honors program creates a college experience unlike any other and creates some universal truths that really only an honors student can fully understand.

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?
