Nail art is a trend that has been sweeping the nation. Youtube, Facebook, and Instagram are just a few of the sites that have adopted this craze. Whether you like ombre, water marbles, or intricate stamped designs there's a style that appeals to everyone. Nails are 10 blank canvases for your imagination and personal style. They can match your outfits, be a beautiful accessory to show off, or just be eye catching in dazzling colors and designs. These glamorous designs take hours to accomplish, not to mention all the planning time. Regular people do not understand the massive amounts of labor and planning that goes into a new design, just for it to chip in five days. So here's to all the nail polish fanatics who struggle through all the failed designs and broken nails because in the end it's always worth it. And we all know that naked nails are basically a sin.
1. Breaking a nail ruins your entire week.
It might even ruin your entire month because God knows it took you months to get them to that length in the first place. Then comes the toughest decision ever; you can do one of three options: attempt to patch the break, file one down and throw a band-aid on to hide it, or file all those puppies down with a silent prayer they'll grow fast so you can start over.
2. You dedicate at least an hour to shaping.
You have your go-to nail shape, which of course takes forever to get to. You spend tons of time filing and checking and filing and checking just to make sure they are all even. If one looks slightly uneven, you grab the file and head back to work!
3. Keeping up with trendy nail shapes.
They look so cool, but they are the biggest pain in the ass ever. Almond, Mountain Peak, Ballerina, Squoval, Coffin, and Stiletto are some of the crazy shapes currently trending and they are nearly impossible to create. The crazy nail shape trends you see on your news feeds are crazy perfect, but as soon as you attempt them, you're stuck spending hours with the file. You thought regular shaping took forever, but it's nothing compared to these.
4. Your Instagram feed is mostly nail art.
You probably follow close to 10 nail art blogs, but you lost track months ago because you just keep clicking follow. You're not even sure when you last saw a post from a real friend. Attempting to replicate what these geniuses invent takes hours, but it's always well worth it.
5. They don't last forever.
Unlike other forms of art you cannot preserve your beautifully intricate nail designs. The best you can do is snap 50 pictures after finding the right lighting and maybe send a few to friends.
6. You have insane polish overflow.
You're constantly running out of spots to put your polishes once your lovely display is full. They've slowly started taking over your room. There're bottles on your desk, in drawers with your clothes and, in various bins and makeup containers everywhere.
7. You have to do everyone else's nails, too.
Your friends send you constant requests and as soon as a formal event comes up or if someone has a nail crisis, your phone is the first they blow up. You'll be getting SOS texts for days.
8. You're the first to know about new colors.
To you, the change in season means new colors. You always know when your favorite brands are releasing a new seasonal line, you probably have it marked on a calendar or committed to your memory. The real struggle is deciding what colors to buy because you cannot afford them all.
9. Wearing colors out of season is a definite NO!
For the most, part nail polish wearers are pretty decent at knowing what color to wear when. It's similar to clothing colors, brights for summer, browns and reds for fall, dark blues and grays for winter and pastels for spring. But there is always that one person wearing fluorescent pink in December and it makes you twitch.
10. You spend way too much money on nail supplies.
You lose your mind in beauty supply stores and you tell yourself $50 is OK to spend on six or seven nail polishes, because you really need them. You wish you had a constant flow of cash to feed your ever growing habit, but you're balling on a budget!
11. You spend way too much time watching YouTube "How To's."
You're probably subscribed to tons of nail art Youtube channels and you spend hours watching videos. If you aren't wasting time shaping or painting your nails, you're watching long tutorials on how to create nail art.
12. You have to plan your week around your painting times.
You probably have a day and time set each week or two for nail painting. You spend all week researching your design and you found a color and are super pumped to paint. In total, it takes over an hour but it is always well worth it when you get to show those babies to the world!
13. Hangnails are basically Satan.
Those annoying little bits of nail and skin that magically appear out of nowhere. They always pop up at the most inconvenient times. It's like they know when you're in class or at work. You can trim and primp your nails for hours, but there's always that hangnail that shows up to ruin your day. Then it drives you absolutely insane until you finally have the time to clip it.
14. Long nails are life altering.
Everyday tasks are 100 times harder with long nails. You have to adjust to using the pads of your fingers instead of the tips. If you get extensions put on at the salon it takes a full week to adjust, because those things are basically weapons. Texting, typing, writing, opening anything becomes a new challenge and don't even try to put contacts in.
15. Being patient during drying time.
The sad fact is, life goes on while your nails dry. So for that terrible 20-60 minutes of dry time it's nearly impossible to do anything. Don't even consider the bathroom. You've probably mastered opening doors with various other body parts like the crook of your arm or your foot, too bad you can't add that to a resume!
