Spring is on its way! That means we are getting closer to warmer weather and spring break! Spring break means a week of freedom to do all the stuff you want (or all the nothing you want!). However, it doesn't just easily get handed to us, and we are forced to participate in one of the worst things any young adult can experience before we are rewarded: midterms.
Midterms aren't necessarily easy to get through. They can last for two or so weeks, and the amount of torture a student is put through is pretty traumatic. OK, so maybe I'm exaggerating, but it's pretty bad. Here's what midterms look like to an average college kid:
1. A few weeks before midterms you are loaded with confidence, and you're determined to pass with flying colors.
2. You start a study group and plan to study five nights a week and insist the group pull all-nighters in order to pass.
3. You stalk that one kid from your Bio class around campus because you know he knows a guy who knows a girl who made up the perfect study guide.
4. And you threaten friends and study partners in the midst of your tired, frustrated anger.
5. You storm out of a study session to take a bath and contemplate all your life choices up to this point.
6. Then you go back to your study group to apologize and pretend everything is fine because you really need to pass.
7. You take deep breaths before you get so angry that you set your study guides and papers on fire.
8. Then your professor tells you that he is extending the midterm from 35 questions to 75.
9. Last-minute cramming leads to intense fights with your friends and screaming matches over the phone with your parents about how much you hate school.
10. Midterm week arrives! You decide to dress to impress for some extra confidence.
11. You look down at the test and see that it's short answer and not multiple choice like you were hoping.
12. Halfway into the test things start looking weird and unfamiliar.
13. You glance over to your friend to see if they'll send you some telepathic answers only to see they're struggling just as much as you.
14. You hand in your test with dignity and grace even though you're actually dying on the inside.
15. You repeat this process about four more times, and finally celebrate when you finish and your break begins! (all while trying not to think about repeating this process in a few more weeks when finals start).
Midterms are absolutely awful, but you can do it. Lord Farquaad believes in you!
