This is mainly from my own music playlists (with some input from friends), so there isn’t a whole lot of variety as far as genres go. However, if you are a fellow introvert feel free to comment with a song or two that you enjoy or appeals to your quieter side. As someone who has accepted and embraced their introverted self, I have the biased opinion that we all like to be introverts at times because we all need space and time to get to know ourselves or just be alone. So, if you have a song or two (and probably a whole playlist) that you enjoy while you are spending some quality time with yourself, please add it! I love hearing new music too. Have fun being an introvert and hopefully you will find some new music that you love!
Here – Alessia Cara
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKp2CrfmVfw
Because when you are an introvert and you make the mistake of being convinced to go to a party that you really didn't want to go to in the first place, you ask yourself, "what am I doing here?"
Down – Marian Hill
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpMfP6qUSBo
Three words that are the bane of the introverts existence: "are you down?"
Gasoline* – Halsey
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRHNi3QfFlE
WARNING*: Language.
Switching gears from Alessia and Marian to Halsey is like when you get home from a long day at school or work and you just want to listen to something for 3 minutes that will help you penetrate through the fog of being surrounded by people all day.
Dear Mama – 2Pac
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mb1ZvUDvLDY
Sometimes you just like to be reminded of home and what your parents have done for you. Nothin' like a home cooked meal and a place where they understand your need to be alone.
To Be Alone – Hozier
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcDxk9CSTo8
Because Hozier speaks to the soul.
Move Along – The All-American Rejects
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XleOkGsYgO8
Because what kind of introvert doesn't love a good throw back?! It's a spritely tune, but the message is clear: move along!
New Low – Middle Class Rut
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5GYOsKLp6o
The video is a little hard to watch since it depicts reenactments of different forms of violent deaths, but many times introverts feel suffocated by society and others to be something they aren't. As someone who is introvered it is sometimes hard to come to terms with what other people from me because I know I can't give them what they want, so I often go through cycles of depression ("I've been up but mostly down"). The reason I chose this particular song is because in my personal experience I have heard different variations of these lyrics in my head on many occassions.
Linkin Park – basically anything
So, Linkin Park is pretty much the introverts band. There are just too many songs that I enjoy to put them all here. But I am thinking of older Linkin Park albums such as: Hybrid Theory, Meteora, and possibly some songs off of Minutes to Midnight.
The Scientist – Coldplay
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RB-RcX5DS5A
Because every introvert has to have that one nostalgic song that takes you back to the start.
Me Too – Meghan Trainor
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDRORgoZxZU
Okay so, it does have a slightly annoying beat, but, I thought I would lighten the mood up a bit after those last few. As an introvert, it is important to love yourself too.
Float On – Modest Mouse
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTAud5O7Qqk
Of course I had to throw in another throwback! But I like the message of this song and I think it is something that is important for introverts to remember. But, really, not just introverts need to be reminded that "we'll all float on!"
Creep – Radiohead
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFkzRNyygfk
The song that will never go away. But, it basically became the 90s grunge rock introvert anthem, so I have to pay some small tribute to this horrendously sad song.
Scar Tissue – Red Hot Chili Peppers
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzJj5-lubeM
You must be wondering, "why would she include Scar Tissue? It's such a weird song." Yeah, the music video is strange too, but it is another example of the 90s appeal to the intovert life.
Outside – Staind
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVQpfoqsY8Q
By now you are saying, "but Nicole, another sad song?! Introverts aren't always sad people, just different." This is true. But I view the lyrics of Outside as more of an introspective of how I often feel about other people. More often I find myself want to repeat lines from this song to people in person. Plus, as an introvert, you often feel like you are on the outside looking in.
Me, Myself, & I – G-Eazy & Beb Rexha
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSfpSOBD30U
I chose to end with this song because we all have those moments where we just want to run away from it all, and that is okay.
