15 Songs From The Emo MySpace Days
The Daily Dot

Growing up MySpace was life. Every day the young, angsty teens couldn't wait to leave school and hit the desktop for a few hours to post online. You couldn't wait to arrange your top eight and post a bulletin on why your day was a drag. Everyone would leave comments on each other's pages all blinged out. Back then we were carefree and nothing could change that. We boasted and bragged about page layouts and competing to see who would have the best about me section, but the most important feature was your profile song. You would spend hours finding the right song to force everyone who visited your profile to listen to. I chose 15 songs from the MySpace era that more than likely will bring a tear to your eye.

1. "Ohio Is for Lovers" - Hawthorne Heights

MySpace was one of the birth places for the "emo" culture. With lyrics like "so cut my wrist and black my eyes," it was bound to be a profile song. Your parents totally thought your music was a cry for help, but honestly it was just a form of expression.

2. "Sugar, We're Goin' Down" - Fall Out Boy

Although most of us didn't know a majority of the words, we would belt out the ones we did to the top of our lungs. "From Under the Cork Tree" is still hands down my favorite album by the band.

3. "Note to Self" - From First to Last

Before Skrillex, we had Sonny Moore singing his heart out with this post-hardcore band. Everyone knows someone who was obsessed with this song.

4. "Bird and the Worm" - The Used

If you were a part of the emo culture, you obviously know the Used. Many teens cranked them up and idolized them. Their constant contact with MCR made them even better. Forever shipping Gerard and Bert.

5. "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" - Green Day

Not gonna lie, this band was my obsession. I own every album and have all kinds of merch. The album American Idiot was super popular during the MySpace days.

6. "Everything Is Alright" - Motion City Soundtrack

This song soothes my emo soul. It's bubbly and energetic and totally someone's old profile song. This song on someone's profile screams "take me to Warped Tour."

7. "I Write Sins Not Tradgedies" - Panic! At The Disco

This song is a classic. Everyone wanted to listen to this song because it had a bad word in it. In all honesty the song has a pretty good sentiment behind it.

8. "Face Down" - The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

You felt so deep jamming to this song. This song made you vow that no one that really loves you could hurt you. This, this right here, is a song to be taken seriously.

9. "This Photograph Is Proof" - Taking Back Sunday

While TBS has multiple songs that hit the feels, this one killed it on Fuse. Most definitely a song found in a MySpace profile.

10. "Situations" - Escape the Fate

If you listened to these guys you felt hardcore. They spoke to your emotions. Ronnie is also hot, which helps.

11. "Don't Trust Me" - 3Oh!3

This song, while catchy, is also hilarious. Everyone wanted to hear this song because it mentioned Helen Keller and her gyrating hips.

12. "Misery Business" - Paramore

I don't think I know a single young person who doesn't enjoy Paramore. She has an amazing voice paired with beautiful lyrics.

13. "Pretty Girl" - Sugarcult

This band really deserves more recognition than they get. So many of their songs got a lot of us through rough patches. Not to mention they have some so gs you can't help but get up and mosh to them.

14. "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" - My Chemical Romance

These guys were most of our lives. My inner emo kid is screaming for joy. The music produced by these musical geniuses will live forever in my soul. They also happened to be my first profile layout. Ahh, the good old days.

15. "Plastic Surgery Slumber Party" - Jeffree Star

Just hear me out. You know deep down you have a slight obsession with the MySpace days Jeffree Star. His unique photos and fashion sense just captivate you. He is a beautiful human, and his make-up is that of a model. You know you listened to this song at least once.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
