First of all, if you didn’t watch Spongebob as a kid, I’m sorry. You missed out on an incredibly formative childhood experience. I wouldn’t trade my time watching Spongebob for anything. It has taught me a great deal about underwater sea life, cuisine, and driving boats. The most valuable lesson though, is the that of friendship.

In our lives we will encounter so many different types of people, especially in college. So, if Bikini Bottom were you floor of the residence hall you live in, who would you be? Sandy Cheeks, for instance, is that adventurous friend who longs for a quality adrenaline rush, who never studies for a test, but always seems to get an A. Patrick Star, that guy who just tags along to whatever you’re doing and probably smells like some undetectable dining hall food. Mr. Krabs, your friend’s creepy dad who offers you summer work. Pearl, the girl that ends up on your floor every weekend crying, and is obsessed with the popular boy-band of the moment. Spongebob, the glue that holds the floor together, the spirited one, the funny one, the person who steps into the hall and everyone else slowly trickles out of their rooms to listen to whatever story is being told. Finally, there is the Squidward. That’s me. Squidwards rarely think that they’re the Squidwards, so if you don’t find yourself fitting into another category, I hate the break the news to you, but you are the cranky Squid of your floor.

1. You find yourself stepping into the hallway at night to quiet things down.

2. You seem to enjoy the finer things in life, even when nobody else does.

3. Dancing doesn’t come naturally to you, but you like it anyway.

4. You accidentally overslept for a class, and ended up like this:

5. You don’t enjoy Halloween. In fact, you might even despise it.

6. You have the occasional “breakdown” because of the mess in the bathroom or shower.

7. You seem to stress about the future more than anyone else on your floor.

8. By Thursday morning, you just want to nap until Monday.

9. Floor meeting?

10. Sometimes people accidentally catch you checking yourself out in the bathroom mirror, and you pretend like nothing happened.

11. Why does nobody else seem to think about personal hygiene?!

12. “You roll your eyes a lot.”

“ No I don’t.”

13. People on your floor think it’s funny to try to annoy you, but you secretly like it.

14. At the end of the day, you’ll always know that you need the people on your floor.

15. Because they'll always be there for you, even if you're a little difficult at times...

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
