Some of us in high school got the awesome privilege of being on a dance line. And some of us on that dance line currently have the awesome privilege of reflecting back on the many great (and not so great) aspects of it. Here's a few of them:
1.) Your knees pop and grind every time you bend them.
You've come to face the realization that you'll probably need double knee replacement surgery by the time you're 30.
2.) You're used to harsh discipline, and it bothers you when you see other people in life out of line.
Like, how are they getting away with this? Where is their coach? Or at least a leader?
3.) You find and leave bobby pins EVERYWHERE--it's like it's marking your territory.
4.) You sometimes have nightmarish flashbacks to those 8 am pre-dance camp dance cleaning practices.
*shutters*
5.) Dance camp mentally and physically scarred you.
Chances are you'll never be the same again. Going off of four hours of sleep and practicing for almost triple that is inhumane, people.
6.) You find glitter embedded in your furniture, car seats, clothing, backpack, bags, etc.
7.) You still hang on to the ridiculous amount of gear that you got while on the dance line.
You have about 10 different sets of t-shirts, shorts, sweatshirts, bags, jackets, and sweatpants.
8.) You frequently look back at old pictures and videos of yourself during peak performance time and think "dang I was in such good shape. What happened?"
9.) You still listen to the songs and remixes that you had dances to.
10.) Sometimes these songs, however, bring back some not-so-fond memories of some pretty terrible dances, and you have to turn it off.
11.) Chances are you probably somehow have a costume piece that you used to wear in your room somewhere.
12.) You still like to show off some of your old moves or tricks that you used to be able to do.
You still like to believe you can do them, but you and I both know that that's a lie.
