Where are my Firebirds? From the Friday night games to SGA meetings, there’s just some things that set as apart from other schools.

1. Chipotle was a must before every game.

It wasn’t a Friday night game without going to Chipotle first. Walking in, you just see a sea of red, gray, and black among the chrome of the interior.

2. You were decked out for all the games.

No matter what the game was, you know we were decked out in the school colors, painted onto our stomachs and chest. We won in school spirit, no matter if we lost or not.

3. You remember the Bomb Squad.

Before becoming a senior, going to the games was fun, but once you hit senior year and you could sit in the front of the student section, rocking the signature senior pants, you knew you made it!

4. You know the Slurpees from circle K were the thing to have.

Walking into the main doors with a Circle K Polar op was just the cool thing to do. Simple as that, plus, they were like, 80 cents… why not?

5. You remember the Butler County Fair.

Don’t worry, if you missed the St. Max festival, there was the Butler County Fair. It was a little farther out, but you could still get caught up on what happened while you were on that family vacation and figure out who your new bae was going to be for the school year.

6. You know the library was the place to be.

Though we hated walking there and we all wanted to drive, it was the place to be after school. Plus, we had no choice if we didn’t have a car, since we stopped getting bus transportation.

7. You remember Tom's Driving School.

When it came to the time to get our temps and go to driving school, you knew there was at least one Tom’s Driving School car in the parking lot every day.

8. You remember Elite Photography.

Everyone knows that little yellow square in the corner of those senior pictures and seeing our classmates displayed on the kiosk at Kenwood.

9. You loved The Rave.

Yes, The Rave. Not that lame AMC. The Rave. You bet you’d find half of the school there on a Friday night. Even if you weren’t actually going to watch the movie, you were there.

10. You patiently awaited The Cone.

As soon as The Cone opened, you bet your bottom dollar we were all there, melting along with the ice cream.

11. You were a member of SGA.

Student Government Association. You remember those weekly meetings, and the oh-so-clever t-shirts that are still sitting in that t-shirt draw of yours. Or how half the school joined SGA right around the time homecoming was coming up.

12. You participated in Relay for Life.

Homecoming, Prom, Relay for life. The main events for Lakota West! We held Relay very high on the event list.

13. You went to Ikea when you were bored.

“What should we do?”

“I don’t know.”

“Ikea?”

“Let’s go.”

if you never had this conversation with your fiends, then you didn’t go to Lakota West!

14. Go Firebirds!

And as always… Go Firebirds.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
