15 Signs You Live/Lived in Westfield, Indiana

Here are a few tell-tale signs you probably grew up or have lived in Westfield, Indiana.

1. You knew a good amount of your classmates all the way up from elementary school to senior year of high school.

2. You either went to Shamrock Springs and were super proud of it because you had the super cool ramp that none of the other elementary schools had, or you went to one of the other elementary schools and were super bitter and jealous about Shamrock Springs having a ramp.

3. You had Mr. Christianson as a math teacher in middle school, or you heard about how awesome he was through other students.

4. You cannot for the life of you remember how 31 looked before all of the construction because of how much everything has changed.

5. You have about four different ways of getting to one place just because there is a good possibility that three of those four ways are not possible due to some form of construction.

6. There is really nowhere exciting to go so you have spent a good deal of your weekend nights at Steak N Shake or getting slushies at Speedway or Rickers.

7. You agree that Grand Park is super cool but the traffic it brings in is super not.

8. You have figured out not to go more than five miles-per-hour over the speed limit on Oak Rd. because there is almost always a cop sitting, waiting to pull you over.

9. You probably hate Carmel with a burning passion.

10. Also sometimes Noblesville and Zionsville too, just because.

11. You have a defensive instinct when people question Shamrocks being the mascot of the school/city. Shamrocks are cool too.

12. You have talked about how boring Westfield is but also have developed a strong connection with the city and the people in it.

13. You always have/had something green to wear on St. Patrick’s Day.

14. When people not from central Indiana ask where you are from you say, “a little city next to Carmel” and they immediately understand.

15. You are proud to be a Shamrock!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way.
