Anyone that has grown up in a small town will tell you that it is a unique and special experience. The biggest misconception about small towns is that because our town is small our lives are small. That is definitely not the case.
1. You knew basically everyone in your graduating class
And you cheered for almost everyone as they walked across the stage to receive their diploma.
2. Your doctor has known you since birth
Your doctor never had to ask about your family history because he, most likely, treated your grandparents.
3. You and your friends would end up at Denny’s after football games, Homecoming, Prom, the County fair, etc.
You don’t go to Denny’s, you end up at Denny’s.
4. You never had to pay for parking
However, parking at the high school was stressful because there were barely any spaces available.
5. Your town has a main street with small family owned shops and restaurants
Shopping local is way better than handing over more money to huge corporations anyway.
6. You looked forward to those Friday Night Lights
And you get super excited when your hometown wins the State Championship.
7. The county fair was a huge deal
If we’re being honest, we mostly went for the food.
8. People always ask “Oh.You must be a Republican.”
Actually, I am an independent. And my hometown doesn't define my political ideology.
9. FFA (Future Farmers of America) was one of the most prominent clubs at your school
The FFA kids were some of the most dedicated kids, to be honest.
10. You stayed warm and spent time with friends around a bonfire
Anytime is a good time for a bonfire.
11. Gossip spreads like wildfire
Yes it is true, everyone knows each other’s business in a small town.
12. You and your friends often ran out of things to do.
13. Your high school prom was in your gym or cafeteria.
The cafeteria didn't look anything like Jay Gatsby’s mansion but whatever.
14. The rivalry between your town and the neighboring town was a serious matter.
Stealing each other’s spirit flags was a valid pastime.
15. Every time someone makes fun of small towns you take offense.
Because, at the end of the day, your small town made you who you are today.
