As a resident of Virginia for my entire life, there are many things that I have realized are common for this state. No matter where you live, there are certain characteristics that can be understood by everyone in Virginia, and if you live here, then I’m sure you will find that a majority of these apply to you too.
- You can never predict the weather
- A farm could exist five feet away from a bustling city
- Wawa is the holy land
- Virginia Tech & UVA apparel is everywhere
- You can’t escape people from NOVA
- History is literally on every square inch of land
- Jamestown was the destination for class field trips
- Everyone pretends to know Washington D.C. like the back of their hand
- You are either team Busch Gardens or team King’s Dominion
- You probably have a friend who loves PBR more than they should
- And you probably have a friend who says the word “ya’ll”
- Cracker Barrels are inescapable
- There is always a variety of delicious donut places
- Everyone goes to the Outer Banks when they go to the beach
- And people love to bring up the famous people who were born here, as if they know them personally
But, even if some of these things may have gotten old over time, you still appreciate them and you still love them, because it reminds you of the place you love to call home: Virginia.
