When people ask you what you do in your free time nowadays, the most common answer is Netflix. Whether you're a movie goer or a show binger, Netflix is one of the most beautiful things on the internet. It's becoming more and more common that individuals are obsessed with their Netflix shows, and are now choosing to fill their lives with this over other activities. If you're one for obsessing over your fictional character shows, you'll definitely connect with these 15 signs Netflix is your hobby.
1. You schedule Netflix time
On top of having three internships, a job, classes, and homework piling up like crazy, you make sure to set your priorities straight. Procrastination is no longer just your middle name, you have now legally changed your first and last name to fit your lifestyle. If you don't schedule in some beautiful Netflix time at the end of your day, was your day actually successful?
2. You always need a show
There's no such thing as having a break with Netflix. Immediately after finishing one show, it's off to your Facebook friends to find out what show is next. You've gotten comfortable with the lifestyle and schedule of Netflix time at the end of a long day, so it's important to get a new show to start up on and get into as soon as possible. When you're absolutely stuck and can't figure out what show is next, you feel a little lost inside and can't seem to do with your free time.
3. You defend the shows you're watching
When someone insults your favorite shows on Netflix, war could honestly start at any moment. You defend that show like you were the only who cast all the characters, and films for hours to create this masterpiece. If these idiots don't understand the amazing story line behind your show, it's clear they just aren't watching the same show as you. It's even to the point that you lost a certain amount of respect for that person.....like who are you again?
4. You become emotionally obsessed
Oh my lanta. Thank the beautiful creators of Netflix, because there's no such thing as "waiting for next week's episode" after a crazy hook. When Netflix becomes your hobby, you no longer pause where you are in the show at the end of an episode. You simply start the next episode to find out what in the world is happening and pause it when you're satisfied, or asleep. If McDreamy and Meredith Grey are in a fight again on Greys Anatomy, you best know I'll be finding out why before I pause my show.
5. You immediately connect with people watching your shows
When meeting new people, it's incredibly common to try and connect over shows people are watching on Netflix. No longer are we asking "what's your favorite color?" or "what's your favorite animal?" Now it's all about your favorite shows. Once you find that special someone who knows EXACTLY the episode you're on, and is freaking out about the same drama as you, BEST FRIENDS. It's kind of like in Step Brothers when they become best friends and go do karate in the garage.....same thing.
6. You choose Netflix over going out
You're comfy in your bed, literally 3 episodes in at 6 PM on a Friday night, you best know that once I'm in my sweatpants, the only way I'm getting out of my bed tonight is if it's the party of the year, I want food or I need to go the bathroom. You keep wondering why you never see your friends anymore because your friendship with Netflix has grown so strong. But in reality, whenever you are with you friends, the only thing you can think about is Netflix. So obviously, Netflix trumps having a social life.
7. You challenge yourself to stay awake
You're on a roll. You truly should get an award for the amount of Netflix you watch because, honestly, you must have beat a world record by now. You try changing your positioning in your bed, maybe nibbling on something, truly anything that will just keep you awake to keep this marathon going. The show is on point to say the least, the drama is just getting messy and perfect, but your eyelids are suddenly the heaviest little piece of skin that just won't stay up! Either you end up making the sad decision to turn off Netflix and throw in the white flag, or you stick it out by falling asleep on the show, and try finding where you really watched until when you're back to watching it the next day.
8. Your perfect date is actually Netflix and chilling
When you find that special someone, it's important to give them the time they deserve to help build and foster that new relationship. But wait.....they also better know how to give you your special Netflix time. You know you've hit the jackpot when you're watching a total drama filled chick-flick type of series and your significant other will willingly watch it with you. That, my friends, is called a keeper! Dates out to the movies and a nice dinner will always be in style, but good nights just staying in with pizza and Netflix can be just as memorable.
9. You mourn characters like they're family
You never knew the real feeling of hating someone so much, until the creator of your favorite show kills off your favorite character. For only one crazy moment did you stop consider switching to a new show, but your sanity came back momentarily. This show you once called your baby, something you were creating a long lasting relationship with was just temporarily reunited. It's hard to know if you'll survive.
10. You have a panic attack when it won't load
The buffering sign was basically created by the devil, end of story. What's happening? What part am I at again? Will it re-start 10 seconds too far back? Is the WiFi down? Is my computer not working? Is my computer dead? Is this real life people?
11. You consider Netflix your significant other
If you really stop to think about it, your relationship with Netflix is probably a lot stronger than other normal relationships out there. You make sure to buy it something every month. Your communication is on point, making sure you're seeing each other at leastonce a day. You eat meals with it. You bring it to meet your friends and family. Let's be real with ourselves; your relationship is getting pretty serious, and this one could probably be the one.
12. You quote it, naturally.
Quoting your favorite shows like it's second nature comes hand and hand with watching Netflix on a regular basis. You get this amazing rush feeling when either you understand someone else's references, or they understand yours - it's beautiful. After a little while, your friends will start to catch on that the majority of the phrases that come out of your mouth are usually quotes. But you don't care. You rock it.
13. You wonder if your hobby is unhealthy
What are friends? What is exercise? What is homework? Where am I going in life? These are all normal questions that people with Netflix as a hobby are usually asking themselves. Your brain is on a yo-yo roller coaster, not knowing if your obsessive relationship is a little too much to be normal. When your friends and family ask you these questions though; the answer is always just pure denial.
14. You wish your shows wouldn't have a finale
If Netflix is truly your hobby, you're probably one of the many that keep track of where they are in their series, and how close they are getting to the finale. It's important to mentally prepare yourself for what is to come. More finales have this out of nowhere, stupid, flip of an ending, and it puts you in this mindset of "what is life?". Life would just be so much better if people could just understand to continue the shows that are actually good and stop making more seasons of the shows that don't matter.
15. You re-watch your favorite show - obviously.
Let's be honest, most shows are long enough that once you finish them, you won't even remember the beginning. So that makes it completely acceptable to re-watch it immediately, right? YES! When you have your favorite shows, there's no such thing as watching it too much. When you have the ability to re-watch your favorite show, favorite episode, favorite moments and memories, how do you turn that down!?
Enjoy every second of watching your favorite movies and shows on Netflix because you never know if suddenly it's going to be one of the chosen few that are randomly taken off when they have what I like to call their cleaning season. Welcome to the twenty first century, my friends, where we no longer have a list of hobbies, and now have limited ourselves to a world with only fictional characters who can help us escape from reality.
