I love my cats. I mean, I love my cats. I'd pretty much do anything for them, and I talk about them all the time. I'm pretty sure anyone who knows me, knows me as the girl who is obsessed with her cats. I know several people who seem to rival me in their love for their pets, so I'm hoping this list is relatable. Here are 15 signs you love your pet too much.
1. They're all you talk about.
Your pets come up in all normal conversation. "What do you think the test is going to be on?" "I don't know, but this morning, I was doing my makeup, and my cat came up to me and started climbing on my leg to get me to pet him. It was so cute!"
2. You consider them your kids.![](data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20500%20354'%3E%3C/svg%3E)
I've had this argument before, and I'll have it again. Pets are like kids if you obsess over them like I do. They're your number one priority. You feed them, talk to them, scold them, praise them, worry over them, buy them gifts, send them to "daycare" and love them, and you treat them like they're human because you consider them to be. When someone says, "They're just an animal" you get highly offended.
3. You have a folder of photos of them on your phone.
Anytime you or someone else mentions your pet(s), you're like a grandma with photos of grandkids in her wallet. Oh, you like cats? I have six. Here! You want to see? I have 568 photos right here.
4. They're your background on everything.![](data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20610%20644'%3E%3C/svg%3E)
Laptop. Tablet. Phone lock screen and home screen. Your pets are everywhere you look. In fact, your phone case with a screened photo of your pet on it is in the mail and should be here soon.
5. Your house is a scattered mess of toys.![](data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20768%201024'%3E%3C/svg%3E)
Partially because you can never stop buying toys and partially because every time you clean up, they just throw them everywhere again. You're just used to tripping over toys on the daily.
6. You constantly worry about them.![](data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20600%20368'%3E%3C/svg%3E)
What are you eating? Why are you coughing? Why are you meowing/barking/etc. so much? Are you OK? Every time one of my cat's eyes get a little too runny, I'm at the vet. They all know me and by cats by name as well as my cat's usual symptoms. I'm there at least three or four times a month.
7. You're always buying them new things.![](data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20800%20533'%3E%3C/svg%3E)
Anytime you pass the pet section at any store, you have to stop and buy them a new toy, collar, outfit or treat. It would just be mean if you didn't think about them and buy them something new, right? Also, trips to PetSmart are a weekly must.
8. You're always bragging about something new they did.![](data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20647%20340'%3E%3C/svg%3E)
You got an A on that test? Cool. My dog learned how to shake. Your kid won the spelling bee? Awesome. My cat brought me two dead birds yesterday. Who's the real winner here?
9. You recognize their "talks" and respond![](data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20480%20360'%3E%3C/svg%3E)
I have six cats, but I know each of their distinct meows. If you're obsessed with your pet, then you definitely can distinguish their voice over any other animal. Also, you have conversations with them, either in meow/bark or in real talk, where you speak for both yourself and the pet...but you know it's what your pet would really say because you can read their minds.
10. You cry when you have to leave them.
Knowing I'm not going to see my babies for more than a day is heartbreaking. I even get emotional when I say goodnight to them and know I won't see them until morning.
11. You FaceTime them when you're away.
But leaving is made a little better by knowing you can see them over FaceTime. You're constantly bugging your family at home to send you pictures of your baby, and FaceTime/Skype is a nightly requirement. And of course you cry again when you have to say goodnight.
12. They're the first thing you run to see when you get home.
Whether it's getting home from vacation or just after a day out, they've been on your mind the whole time, and the first thing you do when you get through the door is shove everyone out of the way until you find your pet.
13. You can't nap without them.
Cuddle sessions are a daily must — multiple times a day. They relax you when you're sad, and they always made you happy. The best thing is getting home after a long day and grabbing your cuddle buddy for a good, long nap.
14. You love them more than 99 percent of people.
There is almost no one you would prioritize over your pet. I know I can count on one hand the number of people I would put before my cats. In fact, if you're not my mom or my sister and I had to choose between you or my cat? Know you'd lose.
15. You know there's really no such thing as loving them "too much."![](data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20550%20366'%3E%3C/svg%3E)
Your pet is your whole life, and there's nothing wrong with that. They're a huge part of your lifetime, and you're sometimes their entire life. You treat them like they're the world because they are, and your bond is unbreakable and incredibly special. Keep on doing you even if the majority of people think you're a freak.
